If they keep letting you slide they have to let everyone slide or they may face a class action lawsuit. Add a cookie or bag of chips to the order.

Jeeze, get him to buy a 5 cent candie too or a pack of gum, you cheapie. Tips are tips for a reason, its extra.

Just walk over and get your food. You get exercise and the deli keeps your business. Everyone wins.

Are you charging the order? Maybe they now have to pay bank transaction fees as well as percentages. An order that costs money is not worth keeping.

@gondwanalon: I order in because I work 10hr+ shifts where I get no time away from the desk. I eat two meals a day here.

@worriedguy: That’s a good point, sometimes I do give them a debit card instead of cash. It’s one of the few places that delivers decent food along auto row, I’m sad to give them up.

Offer to give cash and see if they will reconsider. They really are not making very much on your lunch. Work with them and they might work with you. Personally, if it was a small business I liked, I’d give them the extra 50 cents – for free!
I also never charge anything less than $20. I am not afraid to carry $100 in my wallet.

@worriedguy: I’ll just order on the days my boss goes in on lunch with me so they don’t feel they’re being put out to come here. As far as using my debit card, I don’t use charge cards so debit it is since I’m far from the days of affording to ever have $100. in my wallet.

Speculation to follow….

Lets say the avg delivery like yours takes 10 mins. 1/6th delivery persons rate of pay + gas mileage reimbursement must now be paid to the driver by the company. Had you ordered the same meal and picked it up it would only cost the company the price of food, overhead and paying the cooks. Essentially yes its probably worth it to lose the business because you are costing me more to deliver to you. Now if you add on a simple side which is something I probably got premade (like chips) or is cooked while your order is cooking i’m spending the same amount of time to prepare (no increase to overhead and wages) and therefore that will produce more profit per transaction so while its less than .50 to you to me the business owner its quite a lot and perhaps the difference between making money or losing money on your transaction.

Also i’m not sure that I am understanding correctly so just in case, if they are charging a minimum to pay by card that is different. Visa allows merchants to set a 10.00 minimum (due to merchant fees mentioned above) however MasterCard does not allow this minimum and will potentially suspend a company’s ability to accept MasterCard should they set this precedence specifically about minimum amount to charge on the card (not related to min delivery).

@abysmalbeauty: They’re charging a $10.00 minimum to deliver to me whether I pay with cash or card. My boss will call for me tomorrow and ask them to just put extra cheese on our sandwich from now on. Cookies aren’t cheap out here, I am amazed people will pay $2.25 for a cookie.

I agree it is nit picky and stupid to mess with a loyal customer for .50 cents. But if they are the only show in town, then they got you either way.

Maybe its just the difference between confidence and conceit?

@Neizvestnaya talk your boss into letting you put a mini fridge into your work area. Then you can bring or make your own meals. If you offer to make enough for the boss too sometimes, that should help.
