If I drink at least eight cups of water every day and drink nothing else, what benefits would it have and would it help my acne?

I have acne and have tried everything to get rid of it; nothing worked! All the doctors are giving me these medications and creams that take forever to work and usually make no difference. If so, the difference is extremely slow and doesn’t show until after three months. Online everyone is saying drink a bunch of water and I’m kind of skeptical. So I just started: I am going to try to drink only water (at least eight cups a day) for a week or two. How will it help me, besides my skin? And how long will it be until my acne starts clearing up by drinking only water and a lot of it?

The only thing that helped my son was going on prescription strength cream and antibiotics for a couple of months. He had bad acne and the combination of those two things cleared it up.

Acne is caused by bacteria. Water, although a healthy drink choice, won’t do much for your acne.

@leopardgecko123 At your age, your acne is most likely hormone related. I don’t know what type of foods you eat, but the lower glycemic foods do help to prevent flare ups.

Water will help keep you hydrated, but it will not relieve you of your acne.

Here’s the deal, liquid is liquid, They all give you the “water” you need. Although, some liquids are bad for you for other reasons. Coke and orange juice both have a ton of sugar, tea and coffee have caffeine etc. I do think switching to only water might help, it is worth a try. You won’t be taking in the bad stuff in other beverages. The 8 glasses a day was old advice about staying hydrated. Hydration needs depend on how hot the climate is where you are, how much activity/exercise you are participating in. A lot of people don’t realize a cup is 8 ounces of water, and drink much more when they try to fulfill this goal. Most tall glasses in your cupboard are probably 12 ounces or more. So, the recommendation is total 64 ounces a day. There is such a thing as having too much water, can be very dangerous, so don’t chug down 30 ounces in one sitting. The best way to tell if you are hydrated enough is if your urine is very yellow you probably need more liquids. If you are peeing all the time and your pee looks clear like water, probaby taking in more than you need.

It might improve it a bit but there are other things that work better that are topical and natural and not dangerous like the pills that can cause chrons disease and IBS

Some types of acne happen from inside the body and some from outside.

Getting a colonic helps too.

Witch Hazel
The Aspirin therapy another jelly mentioned earlier if you can tolerate it
there are good acne spot treaments out now
vitamin C serums help immensely because some bodies can’t hold it long enough *If you have a high urine output, *Like from drinking too much water, vitamin C somes out in the urine almost immediately and it is a key factor in skin health
Zinc is really important as well as iron and biotin

Drinking plenty of water every day will help get rid of your acne. Aim to drink at least two litres of still mineral water. If the skin becomes dehydrated, dead skin cells are not effectively shed, which can lead to blocked pores and further acne :-/
Increase the variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds in your diet to help get rid of your acne too…...

I’m currently reading about Gerson Therapy, which is usually cancer-focused but has been used to cure acne. It’s a nutrition therapy based on ingestion of organic fruits, veggies and certain other foods as well as freshly-pressed organic fruit and vegetable juices (which would more than adequately replace glasses of water). It’s not easy to follow and you may need to buy a juicer (discountjuicers.com is good), but probably incorporating some aspects will benefit you.

Drinking just water will have absolutely no effect on acne.

And you’ll eventually starve to death.

Accutane was the only medication that cleared up my acne. I tried everything from topical creams to egg yolk all over my face.

That having been said, I certainly don’t discourage drinking that much water and eating healthy. Keep your hands off your face to avoid spreading the oils and exercise. Having a healthy lifestyle certainly won’t hurt and you’ll develop good habits early on. Good luck!

I don’t know about your acne, but drinking a lot of water is always a good idea. There is such a thing as too much water, but you have to be drinking extreme amounts for that to come into play. I don’t know that drinking nothing but water is necessarily beneficial as long as you’re still drinking a lot. It depends on what else you drink. Soda is obviously not good for you. Fruit juice is usually good, but sometimes the commercially packaged stuff is full of sugar. Drinking a lot of fluids in each day will keep your kidneys well flushed out which keeps them healthier.

Dermatologists are your friend. I’ve gotten immediate fixes to extreme skin problems (not acne, though) by a visit to my dermatologist. And be careful with accutane, it has been shown to be linked to the onset of ulcerative colitis, which you do not want. Don’t do a colon cleanse.

It won’t get rid of your acne… however, staying properly hydrated will help other issues such as chapped lips.

I agree with @SpatzieLover

Most likely hormone related. When I was pregnant with my daughter I developed this weird acne on the backs of my upper arms. It went away after she was born. Puberty and pregnancy and menopause, 3 big hormonal shifts for women that can cause a lot of quirky issues.

Firstly, I should say I’ve never suffered from acne… having said that, I started drinking 2 L of water daily about 6 years ago, prior to that no one had ever commented about my skin, these days I get a lot of comments about how nice my skin is, I can only assume the increased water intake has been responsible…...

It is a myth that drinking (insert amount here) cups of water day will result in (insert amazing improvement here), unless you are dehydrated. This sometimes happens in older people who sometimes do not feel thirsty when they need to drink. You should be adequately hydrated if you drink when you are thirsty, and eat a healthy diet.

Is the problem that you think that doctors have no idea what they are doing? You wrote that “all the doctors are giving me these medications.” I am wondering how many doctors you have. There are patients who are very difficult to treat because they “shop” for treatments, rather than trust professional advice. You need to find a dermatologist you trust. Someone who makes you feel comfortable enough to follow their advice for weeks, months and years. Some treatments require a bit of patience to take effect, and some people are complicated to treat. Humans come in a variety of forms.

I think it is reasonable to suggest that there are some very serious, caring dermatolagists out there who are more likely to help you than people (myself included) in a forum like this. I hope you manage to find a professional that you feel comfortable to work with. If you do, I think you are very likely to see improvement.

I agree with them, water is good for bodily functions such as helping discard wastes faster and of course good way to moisturize our skin. Do not be fooled by others who says that eating oily or sweet foods can contribute to acne since according to a study there had been no proof with that the same holds true for poor hygiene. Consult a dermatologist.

Wash your face twice or thrice with a natural vegan and handmade-soap.I would suggest you to apply Saffron and Honey moisturizer or use Avocado oil for this.
