Can you recommend a good cat litter?

“Great Question” (2points)

I think the cat litter I’m using is making my cat sick. I’ve tried natural brands but they’re expensive. Is there a cheap natural solution you can recommend?

There is no cheap natural solution that I know of other than toilet training.

IMO, you either invest in a whole system like the Tidy Cat thing I use.

Or you do what I used to do for one of mine that can’t use the potty which is put a plastic bag in the litter pan & use a newspaper pellet and toss the litter out daily.

OR, you Toilet Train:
I have one cat that uses the toilet. She’s the cleanest and most natural of all.

How old is your cat? Do you have an extra toilet you could train it on? If so, here’s a site that’ll teach you how it’s the site I used to train two cats with…it worked and cost me very little in money or supplies

However, two of my cats will not go on the toilet, so I use the Tidy Cat Breeze system for them.

There is a crystal cat litter that has no dust, is about as hypoallergenic as one can get.
You only scoop the poop and change out the box when the blue crystals turn yellow from the urine. I’m sorry I can’t give a name brand, but, if you go to your local Petsmart or pet supply place I am sure they can find it for you. It is a bit pricey, about $8.00 for a 4 lb. bag, but, with one cat that bag should last about a month. My daughter and her bf use this brand to help with his allergies and it seems to be working.

Thanks… I don’t think I have the patience for toilet training despite how cool it would be and how much money I’d save. Knowing my cat, I doubt she’d take to it.

It sounds like it’s just going to be expensive. :(

Worlds Best Cat Litter. Trust me.

I also use “The Worlds Best Cat Litter.” It’s pretty good. There is some odor, particularly just after Milo poops. Then the smell abates.

I throw all the dirty litter into the woods. The ground-up corn is bio-degradable.

And do trust @tinyfaery She is my go-to cat handler.

silverfly's avatar

@tinyfaery I have used that litter before and I do really like it but it’s really expensive. I guess you pay for the world’s best.

tinyfaery's avatar

It is pricey, but with 6 cats I need good litter.

@tinyfaery and @gailcalled how long might a bag of World’s Best cost with just one cat using it? Also, can it be flushed?

Narl's avatar

I use the Tidy Cat system that @SpatzieLover uses, and I love it.

tinyfaery's avatar

Yes, it can be flushed. It’s also biodegradable.

I use WBCL and find that it clumps only moderately well and doesn’t absorb smells in the first hour of post-poop. After that the odor subsides. Emptying the dirty litter is not very pleasant, under any circumstance.

It’s the best of a bad lot, I do agree, although with a septic system, I can barely flush the toilet when it’s filled only with human waste.

@gailcalled Milo must not cover his waste well. I only smell poop when my cats don’t cover properly. The same with the pee clumps. Try covering the clumps with more litter then wait a few minutes. The clumps hold together better.

@tinyfaery: True; he is very cavalier. He leaves a nice little string of poop blobs on top, always, of the litter. That’s not the way it should be?

He is better at covering urine, but not all the time. You probably have a baleful look that you launch at your cats to get them shoveling and kicking.

My boy cat will sometimes not cover his feces at all. It’s a dominance thing. You have to pick your battles.
