Hello guys, I was wondering if using any kind of nail polish or nail polish remover will damage my bong? I was thinking about decorating my bong with glitter nail polish but I’m worried about ruining it. I was also wondering if it’d be o.k. if I could use nail polish remover just in case I mess up or decide to change it. I only want to decorate the outer bottom part of my bong so none of the nail polish remover would go inside it. Would that be a bad idea to do?

Go for it. Even if it messes up the outside a bit, it won’t interfere with the bong’s weed-ripping abilities.

Nope, as long as it’s outside it’s ok.

Acetone melts plastic… I wouldn’t.

Use heat proof acrylic paint.

Er, it kind of depends on what the original item is made of . . . if it is plastic or related product, nail polish may melt it . . . if it is glass, have at it . . .

I have a glass bong. Sorry, I forgot to mention that.

With glass, you should be fine . . . they also make some alcohol-based inks that are wonderful on glass . . .

Hmm..I’ll look into that, I just have this favorite nail polish and it made me wonder lol. Also, the top part of my bong has a “frosted” hello kitty on it…would nail polish or nail polish remover damage that?...Sorry, I’m thinking up these questions as they pop up in my head.

I didn’t even know there were plastic bongs. Every bong I’ve seen was pretty glass.

Nail polish and nail polish remover are very flammable. Sounds like you are playing with fire, so to speak, with this one.

What about when its dry?

No, your bong will not be ruined, nor will it blow up. You are fine, go for it.

Thanks you guys :)

Use alcohol. One with higher percentage than usual (70% or 80%) works even better.

If it is acrylic, acetone, the main ingredient, will damage the bong. It will destroy the finish, and depending on how the joints were made, may destroy them too.

I assumed it was plastic..

How could it hurt glass?

Oh… and don’t paint the inside.

Depends what it’s made of. If it’s a glass bong you should be fine, just make sure to only paint the outside.

If it’s plastic or acrylic, don’t use nail polish or remover.

Also, keep in mind that nail polish is flammable. Don’t wave your lighter around near it, please.

Acrylic is plastic. Acetone is the solvent for acrylic and is the solvent for superglue. If the joints are superglue or cyanoacrylate adhesive, they will dissolve. On the other hand, if the joints are MEK, or Methyl ethyl ketone, the joints will hold because MEK actually welds acrylic.

OOOPS glass. Oils and perfumes are added to acetone in nail polish remover. Use alcohol or windex
