Stupid Q of the day: How do I unblock my phone number?

Yes, I SHOULD know this but I can’t remember and it’s too late to call Apple.

My friends landline is set up to reject blocked calls and she doesn’t know how to change that setting.

So it’s easier for me to change mine temporarily.

Thanks.

E-mail her and tell her to call you?

That will still not remove the restriction on the landline nor change the settings on mine.

I only have a cell. We need this call to be on the landline not on my cell and hers. She’s aware of this situation but doesn’t know how to change her settings.

Much easier for me to change mine.

dial *82 then the phone number, this will lift caller-id block on a per call basis.

@njnyjobs

THANK YOU THANK YOU

If I could give you ten lurve, I would

@Jeruba

Lurve you for trying.

Glad you got your answer. Instead of barreling through the obstacle, I usually look for alternate routes.

njnyjobs's avatar

@Jeruba you probably love taking the scenic route when travelling…

If there is one, I do, but when I’m driving I like the route with the lowest number of turns. Every turn is an opportunity to mess up.

I see you have an iPhone. In that case you can go to settings > phone > show my caller ID and switch it from no to yes.

@Lightlyseared OP wanted the feature disabled temporarily to call a particular friend’s number. your suggestion will actually require OP to turn the feature back on again after the call

@Buttonstc I suggest you save your friend’s number both with and without the *82 prefix in your phonebook. use the entry with *82 for calling your friend, and the entry without the *82 will bring your friend ‘s name up on your caller id when your friend calls you up. .... your call gets thru and your next call to somebody else will remain private.

@njnyjobs I would have thought it was obvious from my answer that turning caller ID off again was no more challenging than turning it on. You just flick the switch again.

@Lightlyseared ok, if you say so

@njnyjobs

Funny you should mention it. That’s exactly what I did last night. She’s now in my list twice :)

@lightly

But it’s still nice to know precisely how I can change either that or anything else in the phone settings. Thanks.
