Go to HubSpot Website Grader. They also have some free webinars and free tips for increasing traffic. Go to this site http://ezinearticles.com/ and search for articles on increasing Web traffic. I have gotten some good tips from some of these articles.

Well….you could always have the jewelry models pose naked. That might up the traffic a bit…

This is true. Go the route Sports Illustrated goes when advertising swim suits!

dindinbaby's avatar

That would be really helpful…if it were products for guys. Most of it is targeted toward women, so maybe naked men? That would pose an interesting question of where to hang the necklaces…

You can try Google AdWords. I used to run it for my DreamAbyss.com website. I set the cost limit to $1.00/day ($30.00/month). It ran a link to my website if someone Googled for certain “keywords” that I selected. I set it to cost 5 cents every time someone went to my website from a Google search, so it cost a buck a day for 30 visitors. Every day, I got my 30 visitors.

you could start by writting it out here… Let me see your web!!

psyla's avatar

Yeah! Show me! Notice my previous slyly implanted blurb, you can also check out psyla.com

by the way, @psyla, what does this web is supposed to do?

psyla's avatar

Click a picture icon & you’ll see the computer-generated artwork. Then click the little icon of a printer at the top & a big copy of the art will load. Click File-Save & save large copy of the art to your computer. Then you can print it from there. It’s all yours, free artwork.

In addition to the suggestions above, there’s always so-called web-rings, so you’d mutually link to other, similar sites.

Btw, can we see this elusive website?

psyla's avatar

Sure! psyla.com will lead you to the Dream Abyss.

wildflower's avatar

I’ve seen that one…...I want to see dindinbaby’s site. I like jewellery…

Only problem with webrings is you need an ad on your site that leads to the webring. Might not want ads (for aesthetic value).

psyla's avatar

Me too! Is the person here? Hello?

psyla's avatar

Maybe in the morning, or in your case, the evening.

wildflower's avatar

Well, then I guess just find a webring that share the aesthetic values and therefore have a stylish ad to use…..it’s all about shared priorities

psyla's avatar

Shared priorities – I like that term. Anyway, a business site is basically an ad in itself.

wildflower's avatar

Very true – but possibly you’d get away with hiding the webring ad as a pop up from a links menu? That way it’s not visible on the main page, but it’s there….

psyla's avatar

BTW, you didn’t drink Guiness & go to mass today, did you?

wildflower's avatar

Nope…..I don’t really do either of those things. I prefer Tequila and gardening.

psyla's avatar

Just asking… Curious…. The webring monitors it’s members & hiding links in a drop down won’t work.

Can almond trees survive in Zone 3?

wildflower's avatar

I have no idea…..my idea of gardening consists of mowing, strimming, hedge trimming and BBQ’ing.

psyla's avatar

I threw it out as a Fluther question. I love almonds. I’ve always wanted a billboard to advertise my website. Also, here in the States, every town has a free weekly entertainment little newspaper. Often ads in there are free. I haven’t tried that one yet, though I did advertise in PanGaia magazine. My statistic counter didn’t register too many visitors from the mag ad.

psyla's avatar

What’s “strimming”?

wildflower's avatar

Cutting the tall grass with one of these

wildflower's avatar

Almonds are great! – love marzipan…..but then they say you smell almonds when you have a brain aneurism (no idea if that’s true – thankfully)

Seen any good lawn edgers – the neighbor’s got one, it tidys the edge of the lawn so it doesn’t lay over onto the nearby sidewalk. Me & peedub got nailed in another discussion by a moderator for getting off topic! Guess I should create another idea for attracting hits on a website!

psyla's avatar

Hmmmmm I would have pens & pencils imprinted with the name of my website & leave them laying around everywhere that I travelled.

marinelife's avatar

Hey dindinbaby, if you’re still there after all these asides, there was a gem of a idea buried in the weeds of the gardening talk: link building. Exchanging mutual links with other sites.

Before you get to it though, you need to work on maximizing your site for key words.

Also, how long have you been launched? A press release can help. The best ways cost a little money, but there are even things you can do if you have to go the free route.

What is your URL? I would go to a jewelry site too. Here is a site I just launched. It’s a travel style guide for baby boomers. I know what you are going through myself. Let me know if you want to talk and bounce other ideas around.

That boomvoyage.com link reminds me of something else – boomvoyage is currently not coded right & won’t load! Go to an Internet cafe & a copy shop & rent a few minutes on different computers & different screen resolutions. See what you site looks like on WinXP on an 800X600 screen and a Mac running Safari. Your site needs to look good and the links need to be functional no matter what computer the user is surfing on. I emailed my brother in law when his drop-downs dropped too far down on a Mac. I would click for the drop-down menu and the choices appeared way out in the middle of the screen. By the time I moused over to the floating list of links, they vanished!

@psyla – google adwords are a very good way to drive traffic to your site, the problem with googles sem is that it is almost impossible to find out your cost of customer acquisition. Because its pay per click without the limits on you could end up spending way too much.

The problem with hiring someone for SEO and SEM is also that they can charge you thousands for not doing very much.

Maybe what dindinbaby actually wants isnt traffic coming to her site but revenue being generated.

At which point you look to a lead sourcing company… being top of google doesnt mean making more money, it means you have more people seeing your product but unless its transactional and they can get what they want in a few clicks, youve got a battle on your hands.

Best thing to do is have a nice site that gives people what they want, many photos many prices easy enquiry form, then make sure your covering all aspects of ecommerce, do some adwords, advertise your products on a marketplace (amazon/ebay) make sure your listed in a directory site as well. That way you are maximising your potential revenue streams..

Also look at the otherways of doing things, make a free facebook page for your company, put all products on there with your links, invite all your friends and get them to invite all their friends… social networking with free access to thousands is something not to be overlooked…

Hope this helps.
