The similarity of the songs. If an album sounds like it has the same song over and over I will hate it no matter how good the song actually is. Variety is a a spice of life.

Good songs make a good album. There are so few really good albums as bands were obligated to record 90 minutes of music and that apparently was a difficult task for most.

Pink Floyd, Frank Zappa, Aerosmith, Led Zepplin, the Who, Van Halen and Steve Morse are a select few who consitently put our stellar albums.

What makes a good album for me is when at least four or five songs from a particular album appeal to my personal senses in different ways and that can also inspire my own creativity. Also, as a cool bonus, when the title of the album actually connects with your favorite songs from the collection (titles that have no direct context to the songs are a big turnoff usually).

I really like albums that take you on a journey, be it musically like

Screamadlica by Primal Scream

or

Chill Out(KLF_album) by the KLF

or emotionally like

The Young Machines by Her Space Holiday

or

Plans(album) by Death Cab For Cutie

or literally like

The War Of The Worlds(Jeff_Wayne_album) by Jeff Wayne

or

A Grand Don’t Come for Free by The Streets

or just a collection of amazing songs that are sequenced in a perfect way from a glorious opener to a climactic anthem that leaves you wanting more like

The Stone Roses(album) by The Stone Roses

or

Forever Changes by Love
