“Great Question” (4points)

What languages do you have fluency in? What’s your favorite out of all of them? Can you type a sentence or more using that language here? Should be fun, heehee.

I can fumble my way around American English a bit. That’s about it – even after 2 years of French in high school and 2 years of Spanish in college. It’s embarrassing, really. I have promised myself that I will learn Spanish before I kick it.

I’m not fluent in any language. My linguistic skills flew out the window when I caught the flu. ;-p

Fluent in English and Swedish. I can read, with varying levels of difficulty, French, Spanish, Italian, German, and all the Scandinavian languages except Icelandic.

I’m fluent only in English. I can get by in French and Spanish just enough to order food at a restaurant, say please and thankyou and ask for directions.

poisonedantidote's avatar

English, Spanish, Catalan, Mallorquin, German, and I’m now working on Mandarin Chinese.

“Dwi’n gallu siarad Cymraeg yn well na unrhyw iaith arall….”

That looks like Welsh, or is it Gaelic?

JLeslie's avatar

I completely forgot jibberish. I lidigurve flidiguthidiger (I love fluther).

And, a little Yiddish. Mishbookah mishigas (family craziness and chaos).

And, 10 words in each of French, German, and Japanese.

fizzbanger's avatar

Russian… ya ne mogu govorit’ ochen’ khorosho (ne svobodno), no ponimayu nimnogo.

What I remember from HS Spanish: Tengo un gato en mis pantalones.

JLeslie's avatar

@fizzbanger ¿Tienes un gato in tus pantalones? Are you using gato as a slang? LOL.

fizzbanger's avatar

@JLeslie Not sure what kind of connotation “cat” has in other languages. Hehe.

JLeslie's avatar

@fizzbanger It’s not that I know of the word cat being used in Spanish to mean girly parts, but the sentence made me think of it.

AshLeigh's avatar

I speak English, and I know Sign Language. But I can’t really type in Sign Language…

fizzbanger's avatar

@JLeslie I do remember the Portuguese word for “pussy” (sounds like bleeka?). Some Brazilian guys at a restaurant I used to work at used it like every other word, so it was the only thing I picked up. I would just open the back door and yell “BLEEKA!” to get their attention.

Aqua's avatar

I speak English natively, Spanish at the advanced level, and I’m working on professional fluency in Mandarin Chinese.

harple's avatar

@Brian1946 Yes, Welsh…

@AshLeigh Ooh, you reminded me, I was once able to do sign language too. It’s been a while since I’ve used it now though. :/

AshLeigh's avatar

@harple, practice! It’s fun to know:)

bostonbeliever's avatar

English (duh), some French, I plan on being fluent in Russian within 3 years or so (still studying on an intermediate level), and I can read Latin.
I can also say “Yo quiero Taco Bell!”

harple's avatar

@AshLeigh Quite agree! Annoyingly, my BSL and your ASL would mean we would struggle to communicate with each other despite our competencies… It amazes me that there are so many dialects to sign language even within my own country… you’d think that it could somehow be a universal language really, wouldn’t you?!

zensky's avatar

I’m fluent in Google.Translate so I know about 5000 languages.

downtide's avatar

@HungryGuy I knew someone was going to give an answer like that.

HungryGuy's avatar

@downtide – Yeah! But I was the first, bwa-ha-ha-ha :-p

AshLeigh's avatar

@harple, I thought it was, until I actually started learning it!
