I use this phrase regularly and for me it is about inspiring people to love learning. Not just in a formal sense but to question things and to analyse issues and ideas rather than just blindly accepting information provided. I see lifelong learning as being that thing that keeps us going “why did that happen” and then seeking answers. If the people I work with go away having reignited the little child who asked why about everything, I feel between us we have achieved a good outcome.
I think the day I stop learning is the day they put nails in a wooden box that surrounds me. I learn formally and informally every day. It is the thing that keeps me fascinated in the world and people around me. I am still a researcher so I continue to learn formally. I also learn informally from all the people here, my kids, my students, my colleagues, the person on the bus or anyone I speak to. Everyone has a story and something to share.
