@Kato Social concerns should be taken care of by anyone but the government? I guess you mean social programs like welfare, social security, education, and medicare? What prosperous, industrious, reasonably safe nation has a government that does not have social systems? It seems to me countries that don’t provide systems are probably not countries most Americans would want to live in if they had to find a new country. And, if by social you mean gay marriage, a woman’s right to have control over her body, gay people in the military, the Republican government generally wants to be all inside of hour lives and controlling those things. Maybe you are thinking Libertarians? Or, what Republicans used to be.
Republicans did not care at all about the deficit during Bush. In fact, during Reagan I hated watching the deficit go up and up and up, and the Republicans touted him, still do, as having great economics, call it reaganomics, theory. They argued at the time having debt is a ok.
Clinton fought to balance the budget and did. Some say he had a Republican congress who helped him do. Ok, I’ll give them a little credit. But, the average republican on the street doesn’t give a damn about the deficit unless there is a Democrat in the executive office. At least not in the last 25+ years. Republicans do not want to pay thhe debt they created. Bush going to war cost a fortune. Sure Obama has cost us money too, I am not happy about it, but most Democrats I know want to pay the bill.
Or, maybe you have an example of what you mean, and I have missed the mark totally.
