What is a simple trading card game for my wife and I?

We have never played any trading card games. We want to casually get into playing a fantasy trading card game, not a board game! I bought two Yugioh starter sets but it appears a little more complicated than I had hoped for. Should we try Yugioh or go for your suggestion? Thanks for your time!

I always thought Magic was simple. Stick with the core set and the basic rules and it’s pretty straight forward. They sell pre-constructed decks with instructions on how to play them which seem to make it a little easier to get a feel for it if you’re just starting.

I’ve been told the Naruto TCG is fast and easy to pick up, though I’ve never played it. Never tried Yugioh either so I can’t really compare for you.

At the very basic levels, Magic is simple…. except when it isn’t. Trust me, I had to carry a copy of the comprehensive rules in order to prove that I was actually playing the game correctly (I did some crazy things) and that doesn’t even count the specific card rulings…. in short, M:TG is as simple as you want it to be. A “Stompy” deck (big Green reatures) and a “Burn” deck (Red direct damage) are simple ; my “Kyren Chainsaw” was contentious amongst those who didn’t know the rules, but perfectly legit though I wish I had a nickel for every time a person asked, “Wha… ho… huh?!”.

Shadow Era is simple, but is online-only.
