What is the difference between ANOVA and MANOVA?

As far as I know, MANOVA is used when you have multiple variances for a single test subject. i.e. Overall variation on body shape, you will have multiple different measurements that you may take to work out body shape. You then have multiple test subjects.
ANOVA would be used when you have a single variance measure per individual and then subsequently multiple individuals. (if that makes sense, I am not great at teaching stats!)
