Have you ever done a self portrait?

“Great Question” (3points)

Today I found the “30 Day Drawing Challenge,” and decided that I’d like to participate.
Unfortunately, the first day is a self portrait… and I am not looking forward to that. It’s disappointing, because the rest of the challenge appeals to me… I hate to start it off without feeling excited about it.

Have you ever done a self portrait? How did it feel? Was it easy to do, or did it require a lot of reflection (no pun intended)?

Bonus points for sharing it with us, of course.

I did a pretty half-assed one when I was 16 or 17. It looked kinda like me, but my head was lopsided. I’m actually quite interested in this 30 Day Drawing Challenge, what is it part of?

Edit: Everyone should do this and upload it, that way we can see what people look like without uploading pictures, because I know, like me, some people are reluctant to upload photos.

I just stumbled across it today, not sure what it’s for. Here’s the link.

I did one last year, but I wasn’t really impressed by the results-I can never draw a symmetrical face. So I stopped halfway through…. ;)

I’m so gonna do this! But, my drawing really is horrible. Check back with me in 30 days…hehe.

Yes, but I ended up looking like a shoe. Here. : )

I’m intimidated by the idea of drawing myself. I do portraits more than anything else, so it isn’t a problem with drawing people or faces. I just feel weird drawing my own.
@mazingerz88 that’s great. :)

@ANef_is_Enuf How bout an impressionistic approach to it? : )

@mazingerz88 part of the reason that I wanted to do this challenge, is because I am hoping to push my creative boundaries. I am a very literal artist, I draw exactly what I see. I’m not sure that I would know how to do anything but a literal drawing of myself, especially on the first day. I can’t even think of any ideas, aside from just.. you know, drawing my face.

@ANef_is_Enuf Dooh eeth! Dooh eethh! Hee hee…

Interesting thing. I have several artist friends and they all had different results when each of them drew my face. They were all me but some looked handsome, others not so. What gives? LOL.

I did one recently from a picture I took of myself, but it was also the first time I’ve drawn a real person. The eyes are a little too far apart, but aside from that I think it turned out pretty nice looking.

@laineybug pic?

Here’s mine.

@ANef_is_Enuf I don’t know how to link my own pictures here.

I just put it as my avatar. You can only see part of it though.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

@laineybug I love it, I completely disagree about the eyes. It’s wonderful.

@ANef_is_Enuf This artwork is by a Chinese street artist in NYC. Wish I could say it’s self portrait but nah! I’m with my gf…and also angled it so there would be no flare, plus I want you to see my monkey. Lol. Here

Loads, and their all crap. I have done a bunch of abstracted self-portraits, mostly pen drawings.

@Keep_on_running – You should have used your whole entire ass.

Fuck I meant they’re. ^^

I drew this within the last year, wasn’t crazy about the result though. I don’t like drawing myself!

I have never done a self portrait but I’d like to try. I think if you are intimidated by doing it you should just expand your idea of what a self portrait could be. It could be an abstract impression of your mood today. I could be whatever feels particularly expressive of you today. It doesn’t have to be limited to a representation of your physical self. I wouldn’t over think it. Just get out your paints (or pastels, or markers or pencils or inks or tissue paper or whatever) and plunge in!

A ton. Most of the time you’re the only person you can really count on to sit for you.

@HungryGuy But…but…but…yeah, you’re right.
