Would you say SOPA isn’t really about censoring what goes on the internet, as it seems that it’s goal is to control what is already licensed IE preventing licensed music from going up on joe shmo’s music blog 365 or preventing movies from being leaked to sites like the piratebay.org. Is that was SOPA is about?

@auhsojsa The MPAA and RIAA probably meant SOPA and PIPA to control online piracy. As written, however, it would have shut down much of the Internet’s most useful sites and done virtually nothing to control piracy. The pirate sites could have very easily gotten around it. The lawyers for the Hollywood interests wrote the bill, ajd they knew too little about the Internet to have a clue how to acheive what they wanted.

The biggest moneybags behing the draconian law were the cable and internet providers like Comcast, Verizon, etc; through. And they DID know what the bill would really do. They do understand how the Internet worked. Their intent had nothing to do with piracy. It was a naked power grab., They wanted the right to censor the Internet and make everyone pay to use it. And they will be back for another try.

@auhsojsa The big ISPs want to make money by charging for every thing you view. Big and shared charges for new release movies and music, micro-payment charges for looking up something on Google. and so on.
