“Great Question” (0points)

I am now at my grandmother’s and I want to connect my DELL Inspiron 6400 Laptop to the router…
Sometimes it connects well but with no internet access and other times it fails to connect, and all I get is “Server not found”..

Oh yeah… It did connect once or twice but it was cut off right away

It works fine on my grandmother’s desktop, so I don’t know where the problem is…

Can you please help and I am not a techno. expert so I hope I can understand the solution if there is any…

Thanks in advance :D

@silverangel Does it have a diagnostic icon? That usually helps a lot. I’m guessing she uses a different network than the one you normally use.

I tried the troubleshooter several times, it can’t seem to solve it..
Now the PC shows that the computer is connected to the router and the router is connected to the internet, but the firefox still shows me the “Server not found” page whenever I type a link.
IE does not connect either

Are you using the Ethernet cable or using wireless?

wireless

Are you sure you are not trying to contact to her neighbor’s router?

I did write the password in correctly, it’s secured after all.. :S

You may not be connecting to her router. G**k squad and other will “lock down” wireless for a desktop only household.

@Tropical_Willie Sorry I don’t get what you mean..

The router maybe invisible for wireless. The wireless connection is NOT hers, but a neighbors. Try using her Ethernet cable.

Okay, I’ll try this

If you can get into the WiFi config on you grandmother’s working machine you may be able to figure out what to put in your machine.
If her’s is also a WIndows machine go to the control panel / network…
Look for gateway and DNS settings. They may be “automatic” (DHCP).
