I was out for a beach walk and I am pretty sure that there were a bunch of Loons out on the water. Black and white. Not ducks, not geese.

They did sound like this, I’m sure.

Completely normal. We see them on the lake at our lake home all the time. They are so beautiful. You should go back after they’ve had babies @Judethat is an endearing sight 4th pic down

Yes those are loons. I don’t know how common they are on Lake Huron. They’re all over in the Adirondacks. They wake us up some mornings.

I am going to try and upload some video that I took from my phone.

Very common, though of course welcome. There’s a map of their range on this site:

Given that their summer range is basically ALL of Canada (plus the great lakes and northern New England), it’s not surprising that it was honored by being placed on their dollar coin.

Loons…I love loons. Year after year, one of my wall calendars is photos of loons. I wish I could hear them where I live. I do carry a loonie in my pocket.

I’ve seen them on Lake Huron, but more often on Lake Superior.

I LOVE LOONS. THEY MAKE ME THINK OF BEING IN MAINE ON A LAKE IN A KAYAK AND SEEING LOONS. SIGH.
