Question about mattresses...

“Great Question” (1points)

I know to periodically flip a mattress, and have off and on for the 8 years I have owned it. It has developed an indentation from sleeping in one spot. I seem to recall that you should not put the foot of a mattress to the head of the bed. Is this true and why?

I started sleeping on the other side of the bed, but had to rearrange furniture (other than the bed) to make it workable. Then I thought, duh, why not just put the foot to the head, making the “good” part of the mattress on my side of the bed?

Any thoughts?

You can flip a mattress any way you want. I sold mattresses for 2 or 3 years working my way through graduate school.

I have always flipped mattress both directions, working an a schedule, first rotate, then flip.

@Hawaii_Jake and @YARNLADY will the box springs have gotten an indentation too, or just the mattress? (we are talking about a plus size person on the bed).

@redhen4 : That’s really not possible to answer without directly looking at the box spring. If the set is only 8 years old, then I doubt it, but still, I can’t say for sure without looking at it.

@redhen4 My husband and I are both plus size, so our mattress stays fairly even ha, ha. The box springs don’t seem to be affected.

P.S. I also have a top quality fitted mattress pad, and an additional mattress cover over the box springs. These add strength to both.

I have also flipped mattresses from foot to head.

Rotate all mattresses. If the mattress is flippable (all of them are not these days), flip it. If I recall correctly I read move the mattress every three months in this order, rotate, flip, rotate, flip, rotate, flip etc.
