Is it considered bad taste to buy the same designer bag as my friend?

“Great Question” (2points)

One of my best friends bought his girlfriend a Coach for their anniversary, and I fell in love with the bag. Not the style of the bag itself, but the fabric/print/whatever. I didn’t bother going to the Coach outlet to buy it, because I figured it was in bad taste; we see each other all the time.

Except I kept seeing it everywhere, and I loved it more every time I saw it. So finally I caved, and while it’s not in the stores anymore because it’s a winter style, I found it on eBay and bought it and a matching wallet.

Now, the style/size of her bag are vastly different than the one I bought, but it’s the same fabric. Is it considered bad taste if I use the bag when we’re out with them? I know it’s vain, and I know it’s trivial… but while I personally don’t give a crap about these sort of things, and therefore don’t know the rules of “handbag etiquette”, I don’t want to piss off someone who might.

Eh, if you like the bag, just get it. You already don’t care about what you mentioned, and if it does piss someone off, then it wasn’t intentional on your part. And anyways, if someone gets pissed because of this, then…that’s pretty sad, in my opinion. I’m not into fashion or whatever etiquette it might have, so I can’t actually answer this, since I don’t know if it’s bad taste or not; but I do know there aren’t laws about this. I’d encourage you to get the bag if you like it this much.

No. I personally wouldn’t care if someone did this. You didn’t buy exactly the same bag. What if you had gone out and seen it on a shelf and bought it, turned up and you had bags made with the same fabric? Wouldn’t you just laugh and shrug it off? Enjoy your bag.

Particularly since it’s not the exact same bag, just the same print, I wouldn’t worry about this at all. I probably wouldn’t worry even if it were exactly the same, but since they just share a print/fabric, I’m doubly sure it’s fine. :)

Just use it and enjoy.

No, I would not worry about it. Wear what you like.

Nope, it’s fine. Just enjoy the hell out of it! I just bought myself a new purse last weekend, and I’m still over the moon about it! I have an addiction to handbags.:D

If someone would be pissy at you for having similar tastes in accessories, then that person is not much of a friend to begin with so to hell what they think.

Oy, Why are so many women that concerned with being 200% unique and mark items or concepts as territory?
