Would you prefer to live in a country with no roads, schools or hospitals?

Trillian's avatar

What if I disagree?. You made no provision for that.

marinelife's avatar

That is your entire reality: taxes and fees? What about goods and services? Nature? I think your vision is a little limited.

Keep_on_running's avatar

Actually taxes are pretty low in America compared to other countries.

So you think that the $30 upgrade fee that Verizon and all the other greedy telecom companies are charging is justified? Getting charged for paying a bill makes sense to you?

tom_g's avatar

Can I make a recommendation? Why don’t you provide us with some details of your “argument”. Your original question alone is nonsensical, and it requires that we assume way too much about you.

@Sponge: “So you think that the $30 upgrade fee that Verizon and all the other greedy telecom companies are charging is justified? Getting charged for paying a bill makes sense to you?”

This followup question does little to help. Maybe you can tell us what exactly you are so upset about, and then we can respond. Is your question really about whether or not you like Verizon’s new $30 upgrade fee? Because if it is, we can discuss this. It certainly didn’t sound like this was really what this was about based on your original question, however.

The cell phone is a luxury item, not something that you are entitled to. You upgrade your phone, which you don’t really need to do, in order to have updated technology and impress people. You want the goods, you pay the price.
You sound like you believe you are entitled to something for nothing. You aren’t.
You are more than welcome to stay with the phone you have. You can get something even more basic and pay less.
You can start your own company and charge what you like. If your product is good enough, people will pay.

A phone is a want not a need. You are choosing to pay their fees and taxes. Also, the phone company has zilch to do with our Nation’s name.

BTW- I am an average person. I pick and choose what I want, and focus on filling my needs first.

Sponge's avatar

You people didn’t my simple Yay or Nay question and about the Verizon statement that was one example. Everywhere you go it’s FEES FEES FEES. Whether it be in the banking sector or Tavel, FEES!!

Coloma's avatar

@ Your user name is not indicative of your lifestyle is it?
I vote “Nay” for the reasons others have given. As a consumer it is your responsibility to find the best deals for yourself, if you don’t like certain fees, then either stop using their product or find an alternative.

SpatzieLover's avatar

The premise of your question @Sponge is faulty.

You are playing the blame game @Sponge. FEES have nothing to do with our Nation’s taxes.

Take responsibility for your choices. If you want to fill a want you will do so at a cost. You choose to buy things that have fees attached. The reason the gov’t has you pay fees or taxes is due to the fact that the item is not a need.

marinelife's avatar

If you don’t want banking fees, use a credit union.

If you don’t to pay upgrade fees, use a different phone.

You buys the product, you pays the freight.

Taxes are what yu pay for government services. I bet you are using some.

Trillian's avatar

Stop whining about fees. People go into business to make money. Do you think businesses exist just to provide you with free stuff? You get what you pay for. If you don’t like fees, go without.
Christ on a pony, I’ll bet you complain about free stuff too.
When I was at Amazon, there were people who ACTUALLY called to complain that they didn’t like the titles of the free books. Too boring, not contemporary.
What? Really?
Where did you get such an unjustifiable sense of entitlement?
Sponge. I should have put that together sooner.

YARNLADY's avatar

Rather, change the name of “citizen” to Consumer. People who continue to purchase goods from the Corporations and continue to use services that require fees are to blame.

Buy direct from the producer, or buy used from a charity organization. Share, re-use, barter.

tom_g's avatar

fees? What’s going on?

@Sponge: “Everywhere you go it’s FEES FEES FEES. Whether it be in the banking sector or Tavel, FEES!!”

What are you saying here? I’m confused. Very confused. If you come back to elaborate, try to limit your repetition of the word “fees” (as well as the all-caps).

SuperMouse's avatar

Nay. I might be able to work up a little righteous indignation about those AT&T fees. Give me a second here…

Nope, not happening.

P.S. Ask to speak to a supervisor, I get those types of fees waive all the time.

Heh heh! I saw this question on the list, saw it was a new user and said, “Uh oh! I be s(he’s) getting flayed”! before I even looked at the answers. You guys are so predictable, logical and you think just like I do and that’s why I like it here!

You might try asking the question in a different way. What fees do you have a problem with and are they avoidable?

Berserker's avatar

I still say we should name it Mordor. :D

Trillian's avatar

One doesn’t simply walk into M…, oh wait. One most certainly does.

Berserker's avatar

lmao

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

If we’re going to rename it Mordor, then the POTUS needs a new name as well. How about… “He Who Must Not Be Named.” Or “You Know Who.”

The tax rate is lower than it’s been in 80 years. Revenues as a percent of GDP are lower than they have been since the Great Depression. What will it take for those who went continuous tax breaks for ever to realize you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Bankrupting the nation?
