It’s warming up, but there’s still quite a bit of snow at this point. 45 degrees is probably crazy to you, but that’s spring time in Alaska.

Hey, I am going to be in Alaska too. Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagway. I am still deciding what to do while in Ketchikan if you have any suggestions? Is the cannery worth seeing on a tour?

@JLeslie I have never been to Ketchikan, but you can never go wrong with fishing… It is known as “The Salmon Capitol of the World”, or so I’ve been told.

I’ll be stationed in Fort Wainwright which is in or around Fairbanks I believe? Any ideas around that area.

Call the Fairbanks tourist info center, they will send you brochures. I called Ketchikan they were very helpful and are sending me stuff. Also, if you put in the city on youtube there most likely will be video of people who were tourists there.

@CuriousLoner, Fairbanks is about 300 miles from where I live, but I have been there. Fairbanks is super cold in the winter, and super hot in the summer. From what I’ve seen no one knows how to drive, and some of the people are kind of crazy. Haha.
Every time I go there everyone stresses “lock the car door” “hide anything of value.” when you go in anywhere. I guess people break windows if they want to steal your purse while you’re inside. I’ve never seen it happen, but people that live there say it does. Just to be on the safe side. :)
I’ve never been to Fort wainwright though. So I don’t have too much to say about it. Alaska is bipolar, so brink warm clothing, and cool clothing. :)

Also, the one time I’ve ever seen the northern lights was in Fairbanks. :)

I just now got into Fort Wainwright first day of processing. It is really nice out here lucky I came in now and not winter hah. But yea Im a city guy so this is going be different for me. I’ll embrace it :)

@JLeslie Sure, I have the weekend off even with in processing, so I’m going to try and find something fun. Probably hiking or the like, I am a sucker for rucking.

I went for about 10 mile hike or ruck as we call it, think it was little more than 10 but it was very nice so quite out there. Didn’t get to see any critters ,but got a nice preview of the Fort.
