Planning a 2-day trip to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. It’s not enough time to go down to the river and back up since we’d have to do 18 miles in one day. But looking for some beautiful day hikes or other suggestions for a short trip to the area.

It’s at least a few months away, to begin with, right? Permits fill up extremely fast.

The omnipresent issue of hiking the canyon is: you hike down into it, and then you have to hike up to get out of it.

My ex was not a good hiker, but we walked down a couple miles, on a trail not too far from the South Rim lodges (I can’t remember the name, it was too long ago). It was beautiful getting into it, but it was also hard to climb out of, most trails there have some pretty steep sections.

That’s just something to be aware of. For every step down, it’s twice as much getting out.
