So… I wrote some pieces, and am trying to monetize them on youtube. But when I try, it claims that they are not eligible. Is there some sort of special license or something that I need for this to work?

How did you put pieces you “wrote” on YouTube? Did you make a video?

Did you follow the process to become a YouTube partner? It’s all there on the website. You need to regularly put up videos that get a lot of views.

Ah, ok.
Then it’s probably not an option for me. I only upload every once in a while, and it’s always just small performances of my music, by me or friends. Thanks anyway.

Btw, why did you put “wrote” in quotation marks? Just curious.

Because I didn’t know what you meant by wrote, and You Tube is for videos. For all I could tell, it sounded like you posted essays.

You don’t have to be a regular contributor to post something viral. Example: Antonie Dodson

Generating a following and frequent posting is better to build long term monetization opportunities though.

You don’t need to be a regular user, but you need to get something on there that gets lots of hits.

I didn’t have the option ‘til I posted a couple ‘how to’s’ on motorcycle mechanics. Once those got somewhere around a thousand views, I got an email from youtube asking me if I wanted to monetize.

Since then, I’ve had the option to monetize anything I upload.

However in order to make money, people actually HAVE TO CLICK THE COMMERCIAL LINK that you are agreeing to allow them to place before your vid. And COME ON. . . you know no one cares to do that when they want to watch a video.

I’ve had a few thousand views over my monetized vids so far, and I haven’t made a red cent. . . or a cent of any color for that matter.

Well I have nearly 2000 views on one of my vids, although it’s taken some time to get there. I guess it has to have lots of views fast maybe? Not sure.
