What is the best way to purchase a Wrigley Field Chicago Cubs ticket the day of the game?

eBay and StubHub have been too pricey for this Saturday’s (6/16/2012) sold out Cubs vs. Red Sox game. I have never had to purchase tickets the day of game but I am going to try my luck this Saturday. Does anyone have any advice? What to do? What not to do? Info on scalpers? If I wait until the 2nd or 3rd inning, is it likely the sellers will lower their ticket prices?

I’ll be taking Chicago’s Red line this Saturday to Wrigley Field. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and help.

Scalpers / resellers are all over the place outside Wrigley at game time. If you can stand to miss the first half of the first inning, wait at one of the bars until the first pitch is thrown. The prices immediately go way down.

I actually have done this for many games I want to attend but at Fenway. I think it should work because it is the same principal.
Teams release an amount of seats the day of the game and are available through the MLB/team site purchase. Request for seats on the web and continue until you get a hit on seats. I have been to many sold out games at Fenway and paid face value by sitting for about 30 to 45 minutes.
As always, if you want to go to the game bad enough then scalpers or ticket agents have you covered for a nominal fee.
