What's a free way to send out a general text to 15,000 phone numbers I have?

I have a list of names and phone numbers with their consent to mass text them. But I still don’t know how to do it. I’m terrible with cell phones. Can I use the AIM service for such a thing? Should I buy a dedicated cell phone? What do I do… to accomplish this without having to pay a vendor 10 cents or more per name? I want to know a free way to do this. I preferably want to load the names and numbers using an Excel spreadsheet. I do not mind if I have to key all the information in again, however, to use a free service.

I’m pretty sure you can send SMS (text messages) for free using skype. I doubt that it has a mass-text function, however… My question for you is, how do you know 15,000 people ?!

The VERY FIRST thing you need to do is figure out how you’ll be able to remove names from the list when people reply with messages requesting you to remove them from the list. If, and only if, you figure how how that workflow will function, should you proceed to figuring out how to send them out cheaply. Remember, you’re about to cost your list over $1500 (texts aren’t free for them either), so it damn well better be important.

Colleges and universities have mass SMS’s for alerts and warnings. Find a communications/security person at a large school.

Set up an SMS gateway. There is plenty of free software tools to do this.
