I was never tolerant of heat. Anything above 30 degrees, and I stay inside.

I don’t mind the heat. The cold bothers me more.

I have gotten to looking forward to the heat, but only as long as I can dress for it. I’ve had business meetings in Washington DC, New York, and Chicago in the summer, and had to wear suit and tie, and just about died. But wear shorts and a t-shirt and I love it.

When I was a kid, I slept in my bathing suit. :) Hair all crazy (long hair all wild), sweaty running around, and, at times, had a popsicle stain around my mouth. The heat never bothered me.

@Mama_Cakes When I was a kid I got stuck with hay mow duty when the mow started to get full. That meant throwing the bales to the side of the conveyor. They just fell to the side of it. The hay heats up as it dries. That was hot. Heat still doesn’t bother me.

Infact it is going to be over 100 the next few days and I am not looking forward to it at all. Thank god I have a hot tub that I keep icey cold all summer.
Having a yard sale tomorrow in the heat…9–3….I will be sitting in the shade with a case of water and hoping I don’t have a hot flash. lol

Yesss. I wonder if part of it has to do with becoming accustomed to climate-controlled environments after living in the south for so long. The heat just ‘was’ while growing up, but now that I’m used to AC in the house, car, and work, it feels blistering when stepping outside.

Maybe it has to do with climate change. Maybe it has to do with body change as we grow older. I don’t know what the answer is.

I don’t like it when it is too hot. It is unpleasantly sticky and impossible to do anything. At least in the cold you can be active and warm up. Fortunately in this neck of the woods it very rarely gets hot.

Yes, the heat, extreme cold, generally my patience is wearing thin with almost everything as the years go by.

Oddly, it is going the other way around for me. For most of my life I have been absolutely miserable in heat and humidity and for some reason, over the last two to three years, I have become more tolerant of it; sometimes even wishing it would get hotter. I think it has to do with my aging muscles that are having a harder and harder time loosening up. When it’s really hot and humid, my muscles loosen quickly. Yes, I sweat, but for some reason, I don’t mind as much.

Not me, in fact I feel cold when others around me are hot.

Hate the heat!! I’ll take 10 below over 90 anyday. Cold you can work with. You can put on another layer, do jumping jacks, run around, all sorts of things to warm the body up. You’re boned with hot unless you have AC or water.

To those of you who have mentioned how you feel now about the heat now, is that always the way you have felt, or has there been a change over the years?

I’m 41 but I have always hated the heat! Winter is my favorite season!!!

I have more patience with it than when I was young. I also have to stay out of the sun because it gives me a rash. I’ve learned how I can dress for both and stay reasonably comfortable. A man’s shirt with two pockets,underpants and thongs for at home. Add light weight loose pants for when I must go out. Streaming sweat can be quite cooling.

Yep, the older I’ve gotten, the more it bothers me. When I was a kid, I could run out in the heat all day and it never bothered me. As an adult, I’d like to smack the weatherman every time he says, “Oh, another scorcher today!” In Texas, we have at least a month of triple digit temps, and it sucks! It probably also has something to do with finally having my thyroid regulated. I’m hot a lot more often now.

Yes, the older I get the more temperature extremes seem to bother me, both hot & cold – but I must admit that heat bothers me more (especially paying the electric bill for the a/c!)

@Mama_Cakes The elderly do seem to be much more sensitive to temperature than younger people. I remember seeing elderly people walking along with an overcoat on n days when the mercury in the triple digits.

I thought I was the only one. The heat has been feeling more oppressive to me in the last few years but not sure when to start measuring from. The parts that dirty up my findings are it has been hotter here in the US southwest with triple digit temps for 15 weeks in a row. I grew up in New England so I already have that acclimation issue but the heat is a bitch. I finally got a truck with a/c and I love that.I feel no guilt about running it. My dog who is hot natured makes me feel like it is bad when we go out even when it’s only in the 80’s. She’s panting and dragging ass and it makes me pant…and drag ass.
I thought old people craved the heat. Last time I did a job in an elderly person’s home they must have had the heat cranked up to 90, sitting there in their sweaters and me- sweat dripping down my ass crack.

I’ve noticed that as I have gotten older that I can tolerate the cold much better than the heat. Most people I know/knew were the opposite, they can’t tolerate the cold as easily as the heat while they age. I’d rather work in the cold too where at least you can fight the cold, unlike the heat, when working.

Well, the snowbirds do all leave Florida when it gets hot. i.e., anytime after April. Something is driving them back to the wilds of New Jersey and Canada!

I don’t mind the heat, but I can sure tell you that I don’t think I could handle playing a few hours of sand volleyball in 100+ temps any more.
I HATE being cold. I don’t remember it bothering me as a child though.

Yes, to quote Joy Behar, sometimes it’s like having a taco stand on your chest (referring to hot flashes). So when it’s already hot outside, then you have a hot flash on top of that, it’s bad.

When I was a kid, I loved hot weather. Not any more. Fall is my favorite season. I can tolerate the cold OK (well it doesn’t really get that cold here in Southern Cal, but comparably speaking) but I find it un-comfortable to have much of a temperature change one way or the other, but hot is definitely worse. With the cold, you can keep on layering up. But when it’s hot and you’re already naked, there’s no where to go with that LOL.

I have never experienced hot flashes.

A sweltering hottest day of the year here at 103. Gah! I got so sunburned at my yard sale running amok, and now just took a cold shower and am on my way to the cold hot tub.
It’s going to stay close to 80 all night, no relief til Monday when we drop back into the low 90’s. Naked is the word! lol
