Do you have the urgency or need to express yourself?

“Great Question” (2points)

Since I was very young I wanted everyone on earth to know how I feel (many times about a certain weather and moment) etc. Why do you think us humans have that urge and what do you do to make yourself content with it?
I often write.

Yes, very much. I love expression.
Unfortunately I often fail to express myself in conversations. I can’t seem to communicate my inside on my outside or by talking.
I often write stuff to express myself.

Acting upon the desire to be heard is a way to prove that one’s existence holds some value. How a person decides to act upon this impulse encompasses a wide spectrum. It can range from some private form, such as a journal or art work to something more vocal and public.

A person who desires to have everyone on Earth hear their message is, quite frankly, scary to me. It evokes images of people throughout history that were charismatic and used this skill to sway a population to their own personal belief.

I’ve never been one to want everyone to know anything I think. It is intimidating to me that anyone who I haven’t personally talked to would know or care about me. Why do they care? For some internal reason which may or may not be in my favor.

However, I do like to be intellectually stimulated, and I do like to meet new people with different perspectives, so I put myself into situations where I can share semi-anonymously.

@minnie19 What was the weather and the moment?

I sure do, but I’m okay keeping it to myself. I don’t really want, or even care to, let everyone know, unless it’s a specific person I feel should know something about how I feel, and even then. I’ve always kept that kinda stuff to myself, and I don’t see it changing any time soon. I have this sort of diary thing that I write poems in, draw or write stuff and other bullshit that can help with self expression. It’s also used for notes when playing video games. Lol.
That doesn’t mean I never want people to know, but I mostly seem to be satisfied with the act of pouring it out itself, rather than sharing it. Either way it certainly needs to come out often, haha.

I have a compulsion to talk about anything and everything, every chance I get.

You assume that we all feel that way. We don’t.

We are social animals. We need to communicate.

I won’t speak loudly or interrupt others to express my opinions, but I enjoy saying what I think here on Fluther. In social situations, if someone asks me my opinion, I say what I think. I give way to anyone who wants to have the floor more than I do..

We are social animals, but more importantly, that means that status is very important to us. We all seek a comfortable level within the group. This is important for so many reasons—a lot of which have to do with self-esteem.

In order to gain status, we need positive feedback from others. If we can’t get that, we have to find a way of coping with that, and a lot of people cope by learning not to care about what others think.

But when you are young, you most likely have not learned that, yet. You still hope to climb the heap. And communications is crucial in order to gain status. You must communicate your ideas and talents. You must market yourself. That is the only way to get people to understand how good you are.

Well, that, and doing something that people notice and approve of. But even if you can’t do anything people approve of, you can jawbone people into thinking you have done something. It’s called marketing. Or bragging.

I won’t say I’m beyond all that, but I will say that I care about others, and I think I can serve people with my ideas. I think that if lurve means anything, it does say that people appreciate my ideas, to some degree. I choose to think it means something. It certainly encourages me. I feel like some people pay attention to what I say fairly closely. Others pay attention a little bit, when it suits them. And of course some see my name and skip my comments every time. You can’t please all the people all the time. But I’m happy pleasing some of the people some of the time, and I don’t have to change how I think—that’s the amazing part. I have some points of view that I know others don’t approve of, but they read me anyway, presumably because I entertain or have ideas that are interesting in addition to the ideas they don’t like.

It is urgent, though. I need to do this. I hope to be liked. And if not liked, I hope to entertain or provoke, because thinking is good, even if we don’t agree. But if I didn’t care about others and what others think, I wouldn’t be here.
