“Great Question” (4points)

A meteor that makes through the Earth’s atmosphere to land in the dirt is awarded the title, “Meteorite”. What do you call a rock that lands on the moon?

More moon. Seriously, it is a meteriod, and ends up a crater.

Technically, it’s not even a meteorite, as I think about it. Since the moon has no atmosphere the meteor can’t ignite while passing through it.

So, as @cazzie says, it’s a rock from outer space that lands on a bigger rock.

(meteoroid)

It’s a potential meteorite in a holding pattern. When a giant asteroid collides with the moon and send the whole mess Earthward, it then graduates to meteorite in action.

It is 1/6th as heavy! I believe the term meteoroid applies because our terminology is so geocentric.
