So we all know our tastes change as we get older. That saying goes for the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and even the music we listen to. I know I’m only 23 and haven’t been exposed to everything, but I grew up listening to my parents’ music from the 60’s and 70’s and then everything that started coming out in the 90’s and a little bit of what played on the radio that came out in the 80’s.

Now that I’m an adult, I’m more in-tune with the music my parents listen to. When I got into my adolescence, I started rebelling against their music because what they thought was cool was so uncool to me. By my junior year in high school, I started listening to more of their music and developed my own taste in music that was actually quite similar to theirs. I searched for music that resembled music from the 60’s and 70’s but had a different flare to it.

So when I was rebelling against my parents music, I would listen to more pop, rap, and more recently, metal. Now I listen to a lot of adult alternative as well as a lot of 60’s rock. What I want to know is, what are YOU guys listening to? My favorite artists are Coldplay, Lana Del Ray, Awolnation, Silversun Pickups, Black Keys, Bon Iver, Fiona Apple… etc.

When I was a kid in the 70s: Donna Summer

As an adult, I love Jamiroquai. Black Capricorn Day always gets me bopping.

The Talking Heads “Girlfriend Is Better” is one of the funkiest songs ever.

What does boogie-down mean?
Rock is still my core; that’s most of what I listened to growing up. (Classic, punk, grunge, alternative, and metal). But I’ve been listening to a LOT of electronic/trance/house/progressive for the past few years, and also world fusion music. I’ve also opened up to funk, blues, and jazz, although I am not very knowledgeable about these genres. My favorite bands are still Nirvana, 311, Tool, and the Chili Peppers, same as when I was 16, but I don’t listen to them with the same exclusivity that I used to!

When I was young, it was “This Beat is Technotronic” by Ya Kid K (Shut up, shut up, SHUT UP.)

Nowadays, Catgroove by Parov Stelar will get me into trouble.

I feel like I answered this question wrong somehow. Was the OP asking about songs you like to dance to, or how your taste in music has changed over time??? Was it asking about songs, or bands?? I am so lost here.
what is a boogie down O_O

@bookish1 Random boogie down songs you like….no genre was specified sooo, I am just going off the cuff myself.

@Coloma: boogie down… where? What does that mean?? I at first thought it might mean ‘dancing’ but how can you dance to Fiona Apple or Coldplay?

andreaxjean's avatar

@bookish1 Just songs that you either want to break out and sing OR dance to. =]
