What can I do on my end to stop neighbors bass resonating in my room?

“Great Question” (2points)

We have just moved into a great place but the neighbor makes (bad) hiphop till 4am. I have a 4 month old daughter who luckily sleeps through it but I don’t and we share a room as I“m still night feeding. I got NO sleep last night and today feel like a zombie – I’ve asked him to wear headphones after 10pm but he wont as he says his studio is sound proofed – it’s not.

What can I do to eliminate the bass – the constant pattern keeps me awake at night – also the fact that you can feel bass rather than hear it drives me batty!

Thanks

Do what I always did…call the cops and continue to call them. He will eventually get the message. My neighbor got a ticket for noise pollution; way over a $100.00. He He He LOL..

Hire a professional sound proof person to sound proof your room.

If it’s your place you can invest in sound proofing but bass is usually very difficult (read expensive) to stop post construction. If you’re renting you can hang a temporary “bass trap” with some mass loaded vinyl or green glue if you’re up to it but it won’t be very effective unless you can get to the edge points. Otherwise, call the cops and landlord/hoa with a formal complaint – probably easier, cheaper, more effective in the end anyway.

Ask them if they’d like to split the cost with you for sound proof dry wall. Explain that you have a tiny baby. If they don’t want to do the dry wall idea, hopefully he will understand he has to cut it out by 9pm. What city/state are you in? There are tons of noise regulations in the U.S.A.

If there’s one thing computer games taught me it’s that nothing solves problems like a double homicide ;-)

Introduce him to Mr Smith and Mr Wesson, this one http://tacticalgungear.com/images/lg105p[1].jpg.

Does he not believe you? If that’s the issue, I would ask him to have someone go in his studio and play the bass at the same level that he does and then come to your place to hear the noise. At that point, he can no longer deny that there’s an issue. If he refuses to not wear headphones or do whatever is needed to stop the noise from permeating your space, that’s when you go to the landlord/H.O.A. And if they won’t help you, escalate to the police.

in in nyc….its only a temporary apartment though…. he said he’ll turn it down…. it is sound proofed but the bass is coming in through the roof… i had bad thoughts last night though of bad things happening to noisy neighbors – grrrrr

He did hear it and he felt bad so that was good. I’ve had some pretty shocking neighbors before.

@tan253 remember you can always edit a reply instead of posting another one just after the first one

What a nightmare that is…sleep deprivation is dangerous…I don’t see why YOU should pay ANY of soundproofing costs since he is creating the nuisance. Calling authorities is probably a good idea and THEY should know you have an infant which may help them convince the noisy one to cut it out. I have a friend with a 50-foot cord on his headset so he can enjoy his music in an apartment while his wife and neighbors sleep…this is just another important example in my opinion how our world is becoming so selfish and uncivilized and navigating it legally is horrendous. From your last post, sounds like it
is resolved? Please let us know!

I agree with going the police route if he doesn’t do something about it. Let them hear how bad it is. It shouldn’t take too many police calls to get some action from him.

If you are close enough to the speakers, you can hijack them with your own music:

Perhaps now he will stop since he heard it. I hear cork tiles help and are not very expensive.
