It’s also like any other post-apocalyptic/dystopian plotline in movies and books.
So,even tho the basic idea is
not new, (and there arent many basic ideas left which don’t borrow from history or literature somehow) it’s the execution/characters that make the difference. That’s what will determine the success or failure of this one.
I watched the pilot and recorded the second episode and so far I find it interesting and well done. It will be interesting to see how long it lasts.
Just as an additional observation on the knockoff idea: complete originality isn’t necessarily rewarded while lots of ripoff ideas are.
Last season, Terra Nova presented a pretty unique take on the dystopian plotline by sending people back in time ( REALLY WAY BACK to the time when dinosaurs roamed the earth) and even tho pretty original, got canceled after one season. But that’s Fox for ya.
I don’t necessarily mind similar premises being repurposed as long as it’s done well.
