I’ve been at my job for over 8 years, and it is a very good work environment for me. However, changes are in progress, and one of the Doctors I work with is nearing retirement age… I’m not sure what I’ll do when he retires. I always swore I would never work in a Doctor’s office, because most surgeons are arrogant pricks. I am very fortunate to work with two of the most mellow Docs I’ve ever known. They know that my clinical skills are excellent and that my patients are happy with my services, so they don’t nit-pick or micro-manage me.
The real downside to my job is the commute: 44 miles each way. My fiancĂ© has been at his job over 18 years, and he works nearly 60 miles away from our home in the opposite direction. We tried to find a home that was about halfway between our offices. His car is an ‘11 VW Diesel, so it’s fairly efficient. Once we pay that off, we’ll get another more efficient car to replace mine – which is about to turn 100,000 miles in a week or two.
