Yes. Very. But only based on the evidence. Without evidence to the contrary, I assume everybody is pretty much OK. But if they prove otherwise, I render appropriate judgement.
Your two supporting questions do not equal being judgmental, in my opinion. Am I judgmental? Yes…Do I assume things of people? Of course, who doesn’t? Do I make decisions on someone’s character without evidence? Usually not.
I am very good at catching myself with assumptions, slip sometimes, but…I have worked on self awareness for years now.
Otherwise, if based on evidence, it then becomes a discernment over a judgement
Judging judgement is a judgment and there is no-thing wrong about making a “judgement” based on evidence, nothing at all.
If we didn’t judge the rustling bushes as a potential predator once upon a time we were chopped liver in the Sabre toothed tigers belly.
Yes, I am judgemental – it may depend on my mood. I’d say it’s part of being human.
To answer your questions…
1. Yes I do that when I meet someone. Sometimes being cautious is just part of people.
2. Not all the time.
On a side note, stereotypes turn out to be helpful; it provides a fairly accurate baseline for you to work with. Check out the very popular “Shy girl turns crazy!”.
Other than a tendency to be somewhat paranoid, I’m not really judgmental. However, the older I get, the more fearful of impoverished people I seem to become. Perhaps it is something like survivors guilt. I was very poor, but though I am not wealthy I have a comfortable life smack dab in the middle of the middle class.
I wish I could say I wasn’t, but I am. I judge people by the way they behave, by what they say and by the way they look as far as the choices they make. I tend to think negatively of people who are always late; who are loud mouths; who seem to think only of themselves instead of being considerate. I try to hold back on the judgmental calls, because I know first impressions can be incorrect and unfair and I’ve been wrong. That’s the best I can do.
1) Only when they do nothing to defy preconceived notions. I have dealt with enough different types of people to have a fair idea of whether the stereotypes about them are true.
2) Yes. I try to collect evidence and give the benefit of a doubt, but I have too little tolerance for certain things (delusions of competence, hypocrisy, bullshit…) to compensate for a bad first impression.
I’m judgmental about certain people, but my judgments are usually based on actual qualities of that person. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s different than looking at someone you don’t even know and making a judgment about them right off the bat.
Yes, I’m judgmental and yes I assume things about people that aren’t true. It just comes naturally, I can’t help it. What can I say, I’m an asshole by nature. However I never act on it nor do I treat a person based on what I think of them. This comes later if my judgement is proven or disproved. I’ve learned to get to know people and that appearances and whatnot can be deceiving, and that what I initially think may be completely wrong. (whether negative or positive, might I add, I don’t just assume the worse of everyone)
I denno how to explain it but I usually keep my shit to myself, so even if I am judgmental nobody suffers from it.
When you get to know somebody, the judgement kind of gets out of the way and you go with what you know of the person and what they’re like. my friends like me anyways
I agree with @Simone_De_Beauvoir that your details don’t match the question. I am judgmental, but a I have a lot of training in psychology. I’m good at judging, and I do it based on the facts.
