Recall a parody of how math word problems have changed over time and how they reflect lowered educational standards?
Some years ago, while working in an educational setting, I saw a parody that was making the rounds in e-mail. It had a series of math word problems that illustrated (tongue in cheek) the dumbing down of education over the decades.
The first example was a fairly difficult and complex algebra problem of the sort that might have been in a math book early in the 20th century. It was followed by 3 or 4 progressively simpler versions associated with later years. By the time it got to the nineties, it was something cute and fuzzy and brainless about two squirrels in a tree or something of that sort, and the question was about feelings.
