2. Sometimes alright if you couldn’t do anything about it anyway.

One can, of course, be simply ignorant of specific facts in a particular subject matter which precludes any negative connotation the word may imply.
Or, as my original answer suggests… here.
I agree, @JoeyOhSoClever, except when a person chooses to remain ignorant by ignoring new information, choosing instead to hold on to old beliefs because they came first or came from a more likable source.
In that case, it no longer is ignorance but moves closer to stupidity. Or obstinacy.
