What happens when you type a comment in those FB "type this comment and watch something magical happen!" images?

I can’t bring myself to do it but I’m curious.

I did it like three times and nothing happened. So now I skip them, it’s a way for someone to prove they’ve had clicks and should get paid a little something.

I have no idea what you’re talking about but probably nothing will happen. More than likely it’s a scam or someone’s getting paid to post the pictures.

I think what happens is that it posts to all your friends pages and pisses them off.

It’s a way to get people to post to a thread and to share the post.

If you don’t forward the “forward this to 5 friends or you will be stricken with bad luck”, what happens?

Right.

It’s bullshit.

Nothing happens that you can see. However, if the page that posted the image receives a TON of comments (even if they all say “jump” or whatever), then that page gets a boost in Facebook’s visibility algorithms. So, the people who liked the page are more likely to see posts from that page in their newsfeed.

In other words, it’s a manipulative marketing ploy. The people who type “jump” momentarily feel foolish, and the page gets increased visibility.

By the way, some of these actually say, “Type L and see what happens!”. What a lot of people don’t realize is that typing L is a shortcut to liking something – and liking a page means sharing your personal information with it. So, think before you type. ;)
