Wait and see what the hematologist says. Breathe.

Waiting is tough.

Hematologist usually share a practice with Oncologists.

Good luck.

You could maybe see an oncologist. I have done that twice in my life. The most recent time a doctor was ready to remove my clit and possibly more of my vulva because of how it looked with basically no testing, and the surgery often leaves women in chronic pain. Not that he warned me about the pain, he just wanted to schedule the surgery. I got two other opinions and then went to an oncologist who told me I definitely do not have cancer. His final word on the other conflicting messages I got from the other doctors put me at ease.

I had chronically swollen lymph nodes under my arms near my breasts and down where the leg meets the rest of the body near the pubic area for years. Finally taking mega antibiotics helped the area, but I still have mild tenderness where it was its worst. I am not saying you have nothing to worry about, nor that your lymph nodes are the same situation as mine were. I am only saying it does not have to be cancer.

Keep pursuing getting to the right doctor. It sounds like something you should not ignore. Hopefully the hematologist will have some more definite answers for you.

it could be a 100 things, when your lymph nodes are swollen – it means they are trying to fight off infection or some sort..

the ones under the jaw and neck have been that way for a year now and the last 4 blood test in a year, the lymphocyte count has been low, 8,12, 18 and the last time 16

@dminchey What is the normal range for the lymphocyte count?

I calmed myself by figuring that after years of living with problems if it had been cancer it would have become much worse or I would be dead already. But, that in no way should discourage you from pursuing an answer with a doctor. Something must be causing your swollen glands. Did they do an ESR blood test? Do you have other symptoms besides the swollen glands? Any rash? Fevers? Any other medical stuff going on? Everything counts.

When is your appointment with the hematologist? I think it makes sense to see a hematologist with the suspicions from the CT scan.

I dropped 14 lbs in a month, Loss of appetite, I have a full feeling all the time, I have unexplained bruising (but I am on coumadin) just dont know how I got them, cold all the time, only 2 episodes of night sweats this year, hurting in my back majority of the time, but my back xray looked normal with my spine, lack of energy, get sick real easy (cause the lymphocyte count is low)

not to mention, a year and a half ago, my cardiologist found nodules on my lungs, sent me to a plumnologist, next scan in 4 months, still only 2, next scan in 8 more months, now have 10, 6 on one lung and 4 on the other, but all still real small, none bigger than 6 mm in size, lots of things going on with me fore sure, next scan on lungs is for this June

People can live with cancer without knowing they have it, of course I certainly hope you do not have it! Keep your head up and think good thoughts! We’ll pray for you – Best of luck finding out what this is!

I saw the hematologist today, he is sending me to a surgeon for removal of one of my lymph nodes, did a bunch of blood test today, actually got some of the results back before the doctor got them, my lymphocyte count is almost normal, but now it show i have neutrophilia and esoniphilia as well, both of those counts are high, one of them is double what it should be, I have not been sick in six weeks, so, everything should have normalized, but didnt, so, I am waiting on the rest of the results and will see if the doc will call back about them, if not, I go back to him on June 5th and should have the removal of the lymph node before than, he will call me tomorrow with a referal for the surgeon

Thanks for the update. Those numbers don’t seem that out of whack to me. I’m not a doctor. Let us know what the results are from the lymph node. Once they look at the lymph node, if that is all clear and normal then do you get the all clear? Or, would they need to do more tests?

Finished all of my test so far as of yesterday, I see the hematologist again on June 6th and I have to meet with the surgeon that morning as well, so I will see what test the hematologist wants to do next and get a date on the surgery as well

dminchey's avatar

ok, The hematologist canceled the appointment for today, he was thinking I would have had surgery by now, BUT , I did see the surgeon today, he has set me up for surgery on July 12th, and I am waiting on a date for 1 more CT that he is running to check on all the other lymph nodes and also the lungs, he will be scaning from the neck are to the pelvic area , just checking on all of them, I would liked to have done it sooner, but that is the first date that I can get, he will be removing one by the submandibular gland, not sure, but maybe the submandibular glad itself, and he will be doing another round of blood work , so I will have 3 months of blood work to compare, , so will wait and see!, meanwhile, I am now down 23 pounds in 7 weeks.

Thanks for the update.

All 3 CT’s will be done this upcoming Tuesday, so I will see if anything else somewhere else has incresed in size, if so, that may change the location from the neck to the stomach, But I will see and keep the forum up to date
