For many years now I’ve noticed the little guys making their way north, from Texas. About 5 years ago I saw the first one in southern Kansas, abut 15 miles from here. The other day I saw my first one here in town, on a residential street.

The thing is, all the ones I see are smashed flat by cars. There are more armadillos, smashed, by the side of the road, than any other animal. I’ve never seen a live one.

Are people running over them on purpose?
