Is there an actual name for those sport water bags that people use. The ones with the tube/hose to drink out of?

I saw a guy use one for cycling. He had it in a backpack and the tube could come around to his mouth so that he could drink some water.

The more generic term is hydration pack (I use a Platypus).

I use a platypus as well.I absolutely love it for hiking.

Camelbacks are more durable than Platypus, but Platypus are WAY lighter. I use then backpacking.

Kind of alonf the same lines.. how do you clean and store these hydration packs? I am always leary and end up throwing it away when I get these.

@rosehips Good question. Usually what I do when I get home from backpacking is I wash them out with soap and water, and then I sanitize with a dilute bleach solution. Then when I pull them out to use again on my next backpacking trip I rinse them out with another dilute bleach solution before use.

@Dutchess_III It’s a lot easier to use (instead of a water bottle) when you’re biking long distance and you aren’t able to stop. I’ll be needing for a 17 mile race that I’ll be apart of on June 8th. You know? :)

I know. :) Good luck in your race!

@Mama_Cakes Unless the bite block leaks. Then it’s a pain in the ass. I always carry an extra bite block in my pack just in case.

@rosehips I do the same as @Rarebear to clean mine (hot soapy water as soon as I get home), though instead of the bleach, I run a bit of vinegar through it, then rinse thoroughly.

I only put water in mine, never a sport drink. I’ve never had a problem with them.

I had one from Jannd, which was a great day pack, and was a great help on a 7 day bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. My current is a camelback and I’ve had no problems with it at all.
