I grew up using Nivea and it’s still all I ever use. Smooth Sensation with Shea Butter is my favorite – it’s really smooth as the name suggests and leaves behind a soft, non-overwhelming scent and it’s not greasy (at least I don’t think it is).

I swear by Aveeno Clear Complexion. I tried a different Aveeno facial moisturizer once and found it very greasy, but this one is fantastic. I do wear makeup, but I also have very dry skin, so a good facial moisturizer is a must. While it is made for acne-prone skin, it really does nothing for acne, so it won’t be harsh on the skin.

I just started using this sunscreen last week, and have not broken out yet (knock wood) and my skin is less shiny than without it. It is just sunscreen, not a lotion. I make my own toner (for lack of a better description) out of witch hazel, green and red teas, tea tree oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, and almond oil, and I put that on as soon as I turn off the shower. Once I’m dry, I put on the sunscreen and let that dry. If I’ll be out in the sun for a while, I’ll also apply this sunscreen powder. on top.

I don’t break out. I am only talking about how my skin looks.

@livelaughlove21 Just clarifying for the group. You and @hearkat mentioned it. I should have put it in my main question. I’m not worried about harshness or acne or anything really. I understand now that you were just telling me more about the product and not focusing on it.

I use Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer with Sunscreen, SPF 15.

It does not feel greasy at all, it just feels like “me.” I put it on all over my face, not a lot, but I am sure to cover my whole face and neck, and then it dries and I don’t feel it at all. Then put on eye makeup and sometimes a little blush. I wear it every day, even days when i’m going to be in the office all day.

When I got the job I have now, one of the first things I did was go to the dermatologist for an issue. While I was there I asked him “what can I do to reduce the signs of aging?” I was 30 at the time. He told me about wearing this type of sunscreen, and as an example he told me to look at the underside of my arm, which is just like everyone else’s, looks like baby skin compared to the top of the arm. He said that’s due to the effects of the sun. He told me he wears this type of sunscreen every day. He told me how to apply it and I have done it ever since. If you know me (and I know you have seen my photos) you know I look pretty good for my age, and I think it’s due to wearing sunscreen every day, like the dermatologist recommended.

I assure you, with the one I wear, I don’t look shiny and I don’t feel greasy. I get it at Costco, about 13 for 2 bottles.

@JLeslie – While you are the OP of the question, I tend to answer as thoroughly as I can for the benefit of the general public, since Fluther is a public forum and people may come here from a search for “skin lotion oily sunscreen” or similar words that are in your question.

The product I am using is a sunscreen that dries to a matte finish, which is what you said you are looking for. I moisturize my skin with a homemade concoction that contains oils and is therefore shiny, and the sunscreen protects from the sun and handles the oil. In your case, if you have a moisturizer that your skin really likes but you don’t like the shine, you could apply the sunscreen over top of the moisturizer, like I do.

I also have a sunscreen powder, which also absorbs oil and protects the skin, so if I’m likely to be sweaty and therefore more shiny, I apply this in addition to the sunscreen to keep a matte finish. I added that I am pleased that my skin – which gets clogged pores easily – hasn’t broken out yet from these products, for the benefit of anyone who comes across this post and might wonder about that.

Aveeno Positively Radiant. I never wear makeup, have combination skin (very dry cheeks and between my eyebrows), and never look or feel shiny or greasy. It is SPF 15, though. Maybe you have different reactions to products with SPF.

@hearkat No problem. I do the same often. I was just afraid I mislead or didn’t communicate well because I mentioned dry skin and oily. Your answer was very helpful.

My mom uses Ponds. Not oily if you put it on lightly and rub it till it disappears.

I don’t always were makeup. The llghtest one I’ve used lately is probably just a cheap Oil of Olay from the drug store.
I really like Chanel Hydramax + Active but you have to use it sparingly. A little goes a long way. To much and it feels heavy.

I use coconut oil without makeup. My face doesn’t feel greasy.

The OTC ones I was talking about with sunscreen in them are “non-comodogenic” which means they don’t clog pores. That’s important.

@jca – I will only buy products labelled as non-comedogenic, but many of them still clog my pores; so that label is no a guarantee, just like “hypoallergenic” doesn’t guarantee that you won’t have a reaction to something. There’s always someone outside the norms. This is why I make many of my own skin care products.

@hearkat made me think about another alternative. A small amount of coconut oil is great and blends right into your skin.

@hearkat: Oh gotcha. Yes the one I use works great for me, and once it dries, I can’t even feel it.
