Today I learned that the rabies vaccine, most likely, gives lifelong immunity, according to my vet, but…because the virus is so deadly to humans the law mandates that the vaccine be administered after the initial vaccine, every 3 years.
Pffft!
My shelter cat is 7 now and most likely did not need it, but…the law is the law. I do live in a major wildlife area and he goes out wandering, but….freaking overkill on the vaccines.
The 3 year shot can cause sarcoma at the injection site, sooo…they now give it in the led rather than the neck/shoulder, so in the event of a vaccine induced tumor the animals limb can be amputated. great!
Do NOT let your animal get the vaccine in the neck/shoulder area!
