I have the same vision (-8.50 in both eyes) and have been worked up for Lasik, and I am eligible. I've asked everyone I know who's had it, including Opthamologists, what their opinion is, to see if I should invest in it. So far, it's come down to mostly good, but some bad. Pros - it's incredibly fast and easy with quick recovery. They've done it so much now they have Lasik, down and competition has driven down costs. Those who have had great experiences, love the results and freedom they have. The other group has complained about "ghosting" or double images created by a miniscule wrinkle in the flap, and dry eyes, as well as the need to go in and have it done a second time. Plus, as time goes on, they're going to need reading glasses anyway.
Because there's really no urgency for me to get this done right away, I'm still going to hold out for a few more years and see if an even more refined procedure comes along. These are my eyes and until the gold standard, hands-down is in place and working perfectly, I'm going to wait. But that's just me : )
I'd be interested to hear what other people have to say as well.
