Is the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King celebrated internationally?

“Great Question” (1points)

Fifty years ago today, during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963, Dr. King gave his iconic I Have a Dream speech. During the days and weeks leading up to the commemoration, I heard comparisons to the likes of Mohandas Ghandi, Nelson Mandela and Bishop Desmond Tutu. To say he is greatly admired in the US is an understatement; is he as greatly admired in other countries and cultures?

Nope not in Africa… Mandela’s legacy as the “victim of the monstrous whites” overshadows his legacy

Yes. U2 and Queen have composed songs in his honor.

Today, while we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the I Have a Dream speech, it is also celebrated around the world: “International commemorations will be held at London’s Trafalgar Square, as well as in the nations of Japan, Switzerland, Nepal and Liberia. London Mayor Boris Johnson has said King’s speech resonates around the world and continues to inspire people as one of the great pieces of oratory.” Source

I’m sure MLK is respected in other countries but not revered to the extent he is in the USA.

P.S. I was there 50 years ago. Any other jellies?
P.P.S.: Really not funny, @@ragingloli.

As far as my personal experience goes, he’s known but not that revered. Then again here in italy racism is basically the rule, not the exception, so i’m not surprised.

Yes. Other nations share his dreams.
