GPS won’t really be all that reliable in a small ish area like a mall.

They say that GPS is accurate to about 10 meters but that is in a wide open area, not urban with stuff overhead.

IT would just be easier to have a map of the mall and text eachother where they are.

Our local malls do have apps with maps, such as @XOIIO suggested.

I think a local WiFi and other location scanners could serve the function you are suggesting.

Although it is true, you could keep track of family members in the mall, it could also be put to much more nefarious uses. Like tracking your husband because you think he is meeting someone on the sly.

Tracking is just a nasty thing to do. Either you trust family (and others) or you don’t. If you don’t, then no app in the world is going to solve the fundamental problem.

What about something a little more low-tech like a Hata-jirushi. You could see those over the racks and at a distance. Each family could have an individual banner with slight changes or additional details for each member of the family.

You might like something like Brookstone’s KeyFinder, which is intended to help you find lost / misplaced keys or other small items in your home, but could work just as well, I suppose, if you had someone else agree to wear or carry it. (The problem with this device is that it only functions over about 60 feet or so, which might be fine for locating keys in your home, but is probably useless “in the wild” of a mall-sized area.)

@elbanditoroso Really if you wanted to track a spouse, it would probably be easy to use their credentials to hop on Icloud and track the gps
