I think @glacial‘s request for clarification is important: do you mean the moderators take offense and remove the comments unjustly or do you mean that users, in general, get offended too easily?
Because I can promise you that moderators do not remove comments because we are personally offended or dislike a particular idea. I have been offended by certain threads that I did not touch as they were not breaking the Guidelines in any way. I have also removed comments that I was not offended by in the slightest, but as they did break the Guidelines they had to be removed.
As for the general issue of users being offended by answers outside the norm, that’s how real life is, too. I have many ideals that do not conform to the norm, and often find myself shut down by other people when I try to talk about them. I imagine that I do the same to them, from time to time, if their ideas are outside my norm. It can make people uncomfortable to be presented an idea that is in opposition to what they are accustomed to or desire.
It’s also important to keep in mind that we are in a completely text-based environment on Fluther. Sometimes users might read the same post a dozen different ways because each of us has to interpret what the tone of it is in addition to its contextual meaning. Where some might read antagonism, others might not.
