I don’t think I could embarrass myself any more in front of my friends than I have before. I sing along with and have made up some dance moves to “Make Love In This Club” by Usher. Sasha, one of my best friends, used to call me a nerd when I did it. I’d turn up the music real loud and dance/sing, but eventually when her calling me a nerd didn’t stop me she started to dance and sing along, too. I don’t embarrass myself, I corrupt my friends so we can embarrass ourselves together.
Any old cheesy love songs by bands like REO Speedwagon or Air Supply. I start singing along and people look at me like I’m crazy. I think I look like I wouldn’t have any idea those songs even exist.
I was really wasted while in high school and sang it loudly to my girlfriend while she was driving. There was a about five other people in the car. I still get teased about it.
I vote also for the Sisters version, altho Vera-Ellen was clearly anorexic and Rosemary Clooney gorgeous for a short while.
What about the Danny Kaye patter song from THE COURT JESTER? . “The flagon with the dragon has the brew that is true and the pellet with the poison’s in the chalice from the palace,” or something.
“those who’ve seen us, know that not a thing could come between us, many men have tried to split us up but no one can”
My brother and I were going to preform that as siameise twin females in a drag beauty show for the talent competition in high school but it got canceled. We were pretty good to. And we are really twins.
Like Bri_L, Barry Manilow has got to be the biggest embarrassment.
But there’s some recent stuff as well…. It’s nine in the afternooooon, your eyes are the size of the moooon, you could ‘cause you can so you doooo, we’re feelin’ so good, ‘cause it’s nine in the afternooooon.
Other great answers found in this question . For me, I would have to go with the Tarzan song that I mentioned in the last question. Another song that I am VERY embarrassed about liking has to be Another Night by Real McCoy . It has to be the cheesiest song ever and I don’t usually like such songs but for some reason I like this one.
I remember it was my favorite song when I was about 8. My piano teacher only taught me classical, and one day asked me what my favorite song was. I told him. He scoffed. I never respected him again.
I am the Queen of Cheese, so I will happily admit to loving 80’s pop/rock, eurovision cheese and country music – but I generally have a pet peeve about a lot of new-ish R’n’B (original/old R’n’B is cool though) and generic boy/girl bands, so it’s a bit through clenched teeth that I admit to liking Push the Button by Sugababes.
Every song I listen to is embarrassing to my friends. None of it embarrasses me. And strangely enough, everyone seems to have a hella good time singing along when stuck in my car….
Ii’s the silliness of some of his inflections, which I copy (even exaggerate) when I sing them. In “My Life” think of the funny affectation he uses in the first line of the song when he sings “reeeeeeal close”. or in the chorus when he sings “myyyyyyeelife”. It’s silly. I sound silly doing it. And I’m embarrassed if my friends catch me doing it.
Good god… more than half the songs I listen to are Hindi/Urdu and lately they somehow feel compelled to throw in some English (possibly for greater appeal) phrases that bear no relation to the song itself—but they end up embarrassing me in front of my friends. (There really is just no way to explain a singer keeps saying “mind blowing” into a song—and that too with an Indian accent pretending to be not). Worse, there is no way to explain why I like it. Still…. the beat is catchy enough that I will listen to that trash in my car where no one can judge me :-)
@atharkhan – i know exactly what you mean. one of their most favorite english words to insert in the bollywood songs these days is “SEXY” which always amuses my friends.
@PnL: Oh yeah…. forgot the “SEXAAYYY” riff. Sheesh…. so embarassing. But, I still like bollywood stuff (especially the stuff that comes out of UK based bands).
Recently I added the Batdance song by Prince to my Playlist songs (web site playlist dot com). I know it has to do with the new movie coming out but I really think it is three crappy songs in one. The middle part is my favorite part of the song.
Guilty pleasure song of this summer though goes to Color Me Badd’s “I Wanna Sex You Up”. I added it as a joke but I love it again. It is Badd!
@breedmitch I actually own the Billy Joel box set. Love, love, love Billy Joel. I think the most embarrassing on to be caught singing of his (for me) is You May Be Right. I get so into it.
My most embarrassing would have to be Love Shack by the B52s. It comes on the radio and I can’t help but to sing and dance a little in my car.
that cheesy ‘i wish i was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair’ song by sandi thom. okay, it is annoying, but what a cute/true message. apathy sadly seems to be the current trend, though it’s not just the new generation, it’s certainly spread. no one gives a damn so long as it doesn’t directly affect them. well, not no one, but.
i’m very sorry too… i’d rather give jackson a hand while he’s watching rock climbers (you know what i mean) then go see state champion playbacking of the year
Anything by Air Supply, Journey, and most **butt metal** (anything 80s/early 90s like Firehouse, Skid Row, White Lion, Steelheart, Hurricane) gets me laughed at by my friends. They’re just haters. You know you like Journey!!
When my kids and their friends set up drums and amps in the garage, I let them practice. I just hung a sign on the wall:
1) No music after 10pm.
2) No smoking.
3) No Journey!
You must understand that my actual taste in music and what I sometimes think is fun to dance around to at a party are two very, very, very different things :P
@lefteh….I agree. I would never admit to “liking” most of the stuff that gets me humming, whistling, singing, keeping the beat ,shaking or dancing, because nearly all music does that to me. For example, although I dislike Nickelback on a conscious level (particularly lyrics) , I rock involuntarily when I see them in concert. Darn near all music “works” at some base level, yes, even Britney Spears. Have fun!
Baby your all that I got (Want?) when your lying here in my arms… finding it hard to believe… we’ve in Heaven. I think the song is called Heaven? Yeah, that is guilty pleasure.
@rovdog: —That was our Prom theme 25 years ago (and I didn’t like it then, either). I won’t hold it against you!
I haven’t seen you on in a while, I hope you are well!
I love metal so admitting I love ballads is really hard for me! My fav is Westlife ‘Flying without wings’ (cringe!) and if my friends knew I would never hear the end of it and probably would lose all my credibility!
yeah… it’s pretty terrible. but I love it anyway! There’s actually a movie which uses that song as a theme- the beginning is about a lonely Nasa scientist or something.
@hearkat – good to see you around! I am well! How are you?
