I reckon she’s a wannabe, trying to get back a her parents by being stupid with her life. I reckon, it Liam Hemsworth is still with her, he is mentally insane (though really hot, so’s his brother)

She’s fine. She’s not doing anything that hasn’t been done. She’s trying hard to be all rachet and she’s not… that’s ok

I think she molests too many inanimate objects. A sledge hammer. A recking ball. A foam finger. That guys pants. It’s rude, she doesn’t even ask them first. :(

I think she’s trying too hard. I feel like she’s been developmentally stunted from being in the entainment industry for so long. It’s as if she’s going through a delayed adolescence.

It’s sad to imagine that she thinks she’s finally being herself when she’s just getting repackaged by the same industry that made money off her Hannah Montana image.

Her work as an artist is awful, but I wish her well as a person.

I feel sorry for her actually. She’s been raised in the entertertainment industry, created by the media, even though she has no actual talent of her own. People want her to be a slut so she’s a slut. She’ll end up like Lindsay Lohan if she doesn’t get help.

She seems to me like the result of being molested young, repeatedly. I wasn’t impressed with her as Hannah. Her most interesting moments were written in for her. When my impressionable little girl said she wished she was as pretty as Hannah Montana, I had a fit. I hauled out dozens of photos of my little girl. We looked through them for hours. I then showed her a picture of Hannah from a toy ad in the sunday paper. Thankfully, she got my point.the bedazzlement was over. She was no longer influenced by the pressures of marketing.
It’s a shame Miley wasn’t given a chance to develope with dignity and good, balanced influences. She could resurrect herself, if she wanted to. If only someone would enter her life who cared to be the positive influence she needs.
That’s my thoughts on her, but they don’t get thought frequently.

She’s trying to out-Britney Britney.

She’s a 20 year old musician that’s been in the limelight since a young age. I think she’s just going through the same phase as her predecessors (Lindsey Lohan, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Amanda Bynes, etc). She will make her mistakes and then it’ll all blow over like the rest of them.

She is a young talented kid who has been shaped by the elements in her culture right now that she believes is edgy. She’s a product of social programming the likes of so many in her age group. It just so happens that her personality type is me me me on steroids..wheee, here I am! This is wholly supported by her father, who thinks its just cute as a bug on a bear’s butt.

Were she to live in the 1800s, she’d be deviously lifting her skirts up to her knees and shaking her boom boom left and right without a single thought of the decency a girl her age should embody. Harumph! She sees others do it, she does it. Its not original stuff she’s coming up with here.

Her background has merely given her a larger theater space in which to act out her desire to be seen, heard, and push the envelope.

She’s not so different than other teens. She’s acting more like a rebellious guy than a rebellious girl. This to me is sad, and speaks to something I’ve always despaired in. That the feminist movement is more about acting like men than realizing true female power. Not that Miley has a thing to do with the feminist movement, but I see her derive her edginess from mundane male stereotypes.

I personally hate the tongue thing. I can only imagine she has ETS, Escaping Tongue Syndrome. This is where the tongue experiences a powerful fear of closed in spaces, and curiously develops the sentience to seek escape at all cost. The fact it is attached is a source of great fear & frustration to it. Still its only purpose in life is to get out of that stifling mouth at all cost and fly fly fly….I would imagine she is working with a very good therapist to be able to carry on with this disorder with some semblance of courage and self respect.

I wouldn’t like the idea of her being a role model to my daughters if I had daughters. She’s not as genuine as she thinks she is. But this is her life and her journey. She’s not violent, cruel or posing a threat to our national security.

I think, therefore, we can afford the largess of mind to let her be. Her life won’t be that easy and the hardest parts are ahead of her. Let her have fun while she can.

Every so often I like a song she releases (although I think her new album is rubbish!) and I think her behaviour is typical of many young stars (and ordinary people for that matter). I don’t dislike her but I wouldn’t call myself a fan either, I actually quite like her voice though.

Super Slut! Another former Disney star whose career is going downhill (think Brittney Spears) and who will be just a memory in a couple more years. Possibly dead by 27 like so many others in the rock and roll world.

@TheRealOldHippie Her dad is from the country music world. She was raised religious, Christian, and did a Disney show. I don’t see where rock and roll comes in until much later, and really I consider her to be a pop star. Or, are you just calling all music rock and roll?

I think this episode of South Park summarizes it pretty well. We raise up celebrities so that we can knock them down. It’s a cultural ritual that speaks more to our own fickleness and hypocrisy than it does to any failing on behalf of those starlets whose careers have followed the same narrative. Miley Cyrus is just the latest young woman that Americans have decided to shame in order to feel better about themselves.

@glacial That clip is the last scene of the episode to which I linked. The episode is primarily about Britney Spears (who has been chosen to be offered up as a human sacrifice). But at the very end, Miley Cyrus is predicted to be the next victim. Quite prescient, really.

The “Taming Strange” episode, which I saw during the time when it was first available, does seem to come with a suggestion that Miley is pushing a little hard to break out of her child star phase. Still, that doesn’t change the fact that the media furor over the matter is the same cultural ritual they ridiculed in season 12.

For anyone who wants to watch, the episode I linked to was “Britney’s New Look” from season 12 (plot summary). There are various ways of accessing it if you aren’t in the US.

And for those who think Miley Cyrus is completely untalented, make sure you’re not confusing her abilities with her genre. I don’t like her pop music one bit, but I don’t like anyone else’s pop music either. I suggest taking a look at some of her cover songs before evaluating her as a musician. Here is, in my opinion, an excellent performance by her of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.”

I like her. She has some really good songs. She’s a bit of a freak at the moment. I’m assuming she’s just trying to shed the Hannah Montana image.

I’m definitely not the biggest fan of the direction she has gone in, but some people have gotten way out of hand about this. The amount of bullying and slut-shaming surrounding her at the moment is crazy! There are so many better ways to express your dislike of something or someone. Like her or not, she is still a human being and she’s just a product of our own society, can she really be blamed for that? And the fact that she legitimately does not care that people say these things about her only seems to get people more up in arms, but if you think about it, it’s kind of admirable.

Is her music the best? No. Are her wardrobe choices that great? Probably not. Is she the best role model at the moment? Not even a question. But she’s just trying to do her own thing, in a society where individuality is supposed to be celebrated. Why does everyone care so darn much?! </rant>

And to say that she is talentless is a little unfair. Her current music obviously isn’t the best representation of that, but as @SavoirFaire points out, her rendition of “Jolene” is really great. And if you didn’t like “Wrecking Ball” the first time, give ”Little Wrecking Ball” (a mash-up with Mumford and Sons’ “Little Lion Man”) a chance!

This is totally irrational, but I can’t stand her haircut. Not because of her personally- I see this haircut on young trendy guys all the time, and I hate it on them, too. Everyone I’ve met in real life with this haircut has been an obnoxious, clueless asshat, an alcohol brand ambassador, or both.

As for Miley Cyrus herself, I think the hating has gone way out of proportion to what she’s actually doing. A lot of 20-year-olds would probably do the exact same thing if they were rich and famous.

Judging from her Christmas video – she’s the Millennial generation’s gift to the world. What a wonderful person. What a wonderful talent. Every parent should want their daughter to grow up to be just like her. What a fantastic role model.
