Have you ever bought a book and felt guilty for not reading it?

“Great Question” (1points)

I have a C++ for dummies book that I tried reading but gave up on. That’s a $25 dollar waste. Last night a ghost or something opened up the dresser cabinet holding my C++ book and it reminded me of my commitment to trying to learn C++.

Yes. This is the story of my life. However as an author, I don’t feel too bad anymore cause I know the author of the book would like me to read it, but be just as happy with the dollar I just gave him.

As for those types of instruction books, I still feel guilty, but have come to accept that I have a hard time leaning anything, or being taught, so I try to put it out of my mind. It works… sometimes.

I have numerous books I bought that I never finished for one reason or another. I don’t think you need to feel any guilt about not finishing a book. I suggest you recognize the emotion and then let it go with a deep breath.

That’s a $25 dollar waste.
That must mean it is in near mint condition still, I will give you $10 for it.

talljasperman's avatar

@Hypocrisy_Central It would cost me $20 just to get to the post office and back. If you are ever in Red Deer Alberta… I would just give it to you for free. I think it is outdated 2009.

^ Some parts never go outdated LOL LOL If I am ever passing through, I will relive you of it and still give you the $10.

No guilt here. It just means I have things still to read before I make another trip to the book store. I tend to buy multiple books at a time when I go to the book store, so it’s inevitable that it will take some time to get to all of them. I don’t feel guilty about it. I have a stack of books that are waiting to be read.

Nah. I have hundreds of books I haven’t read yet.

I’ll get to them all, someday. Tonight I’ll finish up one I’ve had shelved for five years. The Pillars of the Earth.

I admit I have a few sitting around that mock me from time to time, but I’ll get to them.

Nah, I read everything I can get my hands on quickly. I even read a book about SPAM a few weeks ago when I was running low, pitiful.

I can’t say that this has ever happened to me. I only buy stuff that I want to read. I have started books (that were given to me) that I didn’t finish, though.

Ok, finished Pillars.

Next… do I go with Michael Moorcock’s Hawkmoon, Tanith Lee’s Secret Books of Paradys, or Star Trek: Titan – Under a Torrent Sea?

I’ve got lots of books I haven’t read – yet. I think I will read them someday. That’s the crucial bit, so I don’t feel guilty – yet.
I do feel guilty about the books I’ve started and not got into. I know I never will finish them so
I feel guilty that they are sitting there, unloved and unwanted on my shelf. I also feel guilty about books that people have given me to read but I haven’t even looked at them. That’s more a social guilt than reading guilt. There’s a big difference you know…
