The panhandlers and beggars. Everywhere, on every corner, every freeway entrance. You had to go to one of those state run liquor stores in some states to buy booze. The religiousness!! I love America though. And I really, really felt sorry for them ($140 doctor visits!!).
Learning the lingo of health insurance, and learning to make life decisions (like not getting married, and cutting back my hours at work) based upon insurance considerations.
Well, my South African daughter-in-law loves the attention her accent brings. I can’t speak for her, but I think the hardest thing I have had to do has been to educate her on scams – from junk mail to junk e-mail to door-to-door salesmen, to phone solicitations, misleading ads, and the list goes on. I had to teach her to just say NO, to everything!
