Not shaving my legs or armpits. There, now everyone knows. I do shave sometimes though, if I’m getting dressed up an have to wear hose which isn’t very often. But I wouldn’t say I flaunt it. It’s not like I go around sticking my hairy armpits up in people’s faces and chattering on and on about it. I really don’t think about it much. The hair on my legs and armpits is light and pretty fine, not apish or anything. God knows what people think if they notice. Hey, wait a minute! Maybe that’s why no man will have me. :-)

The social convention that I frequently flout is the one about not correcting others’ spelling, punctuation, usage or grammar… or vocabulary. I do that.

@lillycoyote Hah..me too, well, now that it is summer again, but I didn’t shave for years when I was younger. very fine, blonde hair, and, I liked the way my legs glowed with a tan. haha
Also, I rarely wear underwear and once had a female friend say ” I saw your ready for this? wow wow! Seriously…what is a wow wow, were you wowed? lolol

The stretching thing is bothering me.

@Coloma I do shave some summers, if I’m in the mood, but if I do I kind of have to commit to it for the whole summer because of the stubble, which is worse than hair I think. One thing I do like about shaving my legs is when I get into bed on fresh, just laundered 100% cotton sheets after just shaving my legs. It’s hard to describe. A wonderful kind of smooth, slinky feeling on my skin. O.k., now I am flaunting it.

As a parent, I don’t buy into the birthday party gift bags that go to guests—what a waste of money and such an unnecessary gesture. Instead, I choose activities where the kids make something to bring home.

Also, as a parent, I don’t have that “I am an adult, you are a kid” vibe with my kids. I just don’t function like that.

Not a fan of shaving either. I won’t go out and make a festival out of it, but I really don’t care either. If I was a man, I’d grow a huge beard, too.

I don’t mind shaving, and I’m a man, @Symbeline. I was at a table with 2 other guys recently and I was the only one that didn’t hate it.

It’s not that I hate shaving per se, but I’m lazy. And I rarely wear things like skirts or shorts or anything that shows a lot of my legs, so it seems pointless to me. Doesn’t mean I refuse to shave if I wear something short, but if I don’t have time or didn’t feel like it, the Devil widdit.

And by growing a beard if I were a dude; that’s not the lazy thing, it’s because beards are awesome, and I like Vikings. The beard would be maintained and wanted, kind of like now on how I maintain and try to grow my hair longer; cuz I want it that way. As for my legs or arm pits, nobody sees those areas, so unless it plans to get shown, I don’t do much.

I heard on NPR today, @Symbeline, that someplace in the Far East (China I’m pretty sure) is making hose for women that make the legs look hairy. It’s for women that don’t want to be hassled by random male strangers. lol

Really! It was news to me. Of course it does nothing to deter men (or women) who find hairy legs erotic.

@ibstubro Useful stuff… that’s relative, but they do learn a few useful skills. In the past, they’ve made magnets, frames, holiday ornaments, etc. The best was spaghetti monsters, which are inch long pieces of a hotdog with dried spaghetti pushed through, then cooked. Looks like a weird octopus.
I always have them decorate a paper bag first—that becomes the bag to store all the things they make (except the spaghetti monsters).

You do realize that having the kids make spaghetti monsters could get you in hot water with some parents, @linguaphile? Just sayin.
