If I'm registered as a Democrat in California do I have to "unregister" in order to vote for a Republican in the open primary?

“Great Question” (1points)

I know that California has open primaries and you are allowed to vote in either primary (dem or rep) if you are not registered with a party, but if you are registered with a party are you allowed to vote in the other's primary? (Obviously you couldn't vote in both)

California actually has a modified closed primary system. The open primary system was overturned by the United States Supreme Court in California Democratic Party, et. al. v. Jones.

The only way to guarantee yourself a vote in the upcoming Republican Presidential Primary Election is to register as a Republican.
